Bear drinks 36 cans of beer at Washington state park

BAKER LAKE, Wash. (AP) - Rain-eeeeer .... Bear? When state Fish and Wildlife agents recently found a black bear passed out on the lawn of Baker Lake Resort, there were some clues scattered nearby - dozens of empty cans of Rainier Beer.

The bear apparently got into campers' coolers and used his claws and teeth to puncture the cans. And not just any cans.

"He drank the Rainier and wouldn't drink the Busch beer," said Lisa Broxson, bookkeeper at the campground and cabins resort east of Mount Baker.

Fish and Wildlife enforcement Sgt. Bill Heinck said the bear did try one can of Busch, but ignored the rest.

"He didn't like that (Busch) and consumed, as near as we can tell, about 36 cans of Rainier."

A wildlife agent tried to chase the bear from the campground but the animal just climbed a tree to sleep it off for another four hours. Agents finally herded the bear away, but it returned the next morning.

Agents then used a large, humane trap to capture it for relocation, baiting the trap with the usual: doughnuts, honey and, in this case, two open cans of Rainier. That did the trick.

"This is a new one on me," Heinck said. "I've known them to get into cans, but nothing like this. And it definitely had a preference."

Schlitz - UGH!. I wouldn't even steal that from my dad when i was a teen. It was just not worth it. It's only a click or two better than the absolute worst beer - Pabst Blue Ribbon. < /opinion rant>

Great post, norm, sounds like the bear would have a tough time at a race, it's all bud, bud light and busch beer, with some Rusty-Beer thrown in for good measure. Not so much Rainier of other fancy stuff.

"This is too funny! I remember the Rainier Beer commercials, as I lived in Wash. State at the time!

Rai-neeer-beeeeeeeeeeeeeer as the motorcycle cruises down the highway... "

Did you ever see the one by Bud where it had the motorcycle going into a tunnel, then you hear this 'Bud! 'Bud!' (like a semi-horn) and out comes a semi truck with a motorcyle splattered over the grill? Always thought that was a good response by Bud to the Rainier ad (which I thoroughly enjoyed as well).

Didn't Rainier use a Bear and Tom Toms in their commercials. I can still hear the "chant" but I can't remember the words...

Great story about the bear. The among the most beautiful of God's creatures. This thread reminds me of another great thread about bears some time ago. Here is a link to the video. BTW, that's me getting the salmon.

next he'll be smokin' cigarettes

Then that bear will NOT be receiving humane treatment - the locals would be out in force with torches and pitchforks hunting down that evil smoker...

The Department of Natural Resources must now report this bear's alcohol consumption to the BMV. There goes his driver's license!

As I remember it (I didn’t look this up)

"From the Land of sky blue waters....

Come the beer just made for you...

Hamms the beer refreshing...

Hamms the beer refreshing...

Hamms"
