KERRY PLANS HAMPTONS WEEKEND FOR CAMPAIGN DOLLARS ($$$ It's for the little people ya know $$$)

GARDEN CITY, Long Island(AP) Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry is heading to the Hamptons this weekend, presumably because that's where the money is.

Kerry and his family are expected at a number of private events in the summer playground for the rich and famous and when they leave town on Sunday. The Democratic presidential candidate is expected to add millions to his campaign warchest.

Although the Massachusetts senator will be in town for two days, he is not expected to make any public appearances.

The festivities get started Saturday at the East Hampton home of venture capitalist Alan Patricof and his wife Susan. There Jimmy Buffett will entertain an expected crowd of 600 guests. Tickets start at one thousand dollars each and go up from there.

Then the party moves to ``Sex and the City'' producer Darren Star's home in East Hampton for a $25-thousand dollar-a-plate dinner. There also will be a separate dinner gathering for a younger, more budget-conscious crowd at the restaurant Jean-Luc East, where tickets are selling for $25-hundred dollars a person.

Kerry's daughters, Vanessa and Alexandra, and stepson Chris Heinz, will be the featured guests at the restaurant event.

Kerry's spokeswoman declined to predict the total amount the fund-raisers will yield, but the Buffett event alone could bring in at least one-and-a-quarter (M) million dollars.

Kerry's presence in New York has been sparse so far in the campaign, in large part because the Democratic challenger to President Bush enjoys a large lead in the polls. Four years ago, Vice President Al Gore won the state by 25 percentage points.

Is he raising money for the DNC? He can't spend anymore money except for the money the Federal Gov. gave him when he accepted his party's nomination.

You know Clinton did a lot of this type of fund raising... He rented out Lincoln's bedroom in the White House.

I also thought that he could no longer raise money for his campaign. Can he do this after accepting Federal money?
