exactly what happened! Carl Cameron reported on FNC that Kerry was the author of the after-action report (as has always been alleged by the Swifties). WP actually published the citation and it includes the exact same wording and verbiage re enemy fire as Kerry used when submitting for himself to get his bronze and 3rd purple heart.
It's a little different in Navy families -- tradition is to live up to and excel on what the family member before you has done.
McCain had to go to war to prove himself either equal to or better than his father and grandfather before him.
My grandfather was Navy. My father joined the Air Force to piss him off. Worked too.

I guess I was partially incorrect. His dad was CINCPAC while McCain was in captivity, but not when he was captured.
Kerry was the skipper of the boat. It was his duty to file the after action reports.

Kerry was the youngest skipper in the pack & was not the one supposed to file the report - but he insisted he'd do it. Of course, at the time, nobody knew what his motivation was (to falsify the record for his own purposes)

Notice the double standard...Kerry has to only be right about one allegation against the swifties, whereas the swifties have to be right about every allegation against Kerry.
