Was this thing built for the purpose of hitting other vehicles?

Light rail and van collide; several people reportedly injured

Several people were reported injured in Friday morning's accident.

ABC13 Eyewitness News

(8/20/04 - HOUSTON) — A light rail train and prison van collided downtown Friday and there are reports of several injuries.

Details are still sketchy at this point, but apparently the accident happened at Commerce and Main. The driver of the Tarrant County prison van reportedly made an illegal right turn onto Commerce and was hit by the train.

We're told that two people on the train, three prisoners, and two deputies were all injured. The extent of those injuries are unknown.

Harris County sheriff's deputies are helping to secure the prisoners. We'll have more on this accident today starting with ABC13 Eyewitness News at 4pm.

I'll give 10:1 odds that the prison bus was making an illegal left-hand turn

And I bet the driver will say "It wasn't ME, it was the one-armed man!" too...

Hang on, annyokie; I've got a thread for you! Flyer, do you know where the Wham Bam Tram Crash Counter is these days...AA's site?

Richard Kimball was already recaptured, we need to find Richard Kimble. I know to do. Let's go to the nearest dam.

Van carrying prisoners collides with Metro train

Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle

A Tarrant County prison van collided with a MetroRail train shortly before noon today downtown, injuring seven people.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Main and Commerce streets.

Five people in the van were taken to area hospitals with what police described as minor injuries. Two people on the train who were hurt declined treatment.

Metro Police Chief Tom Lambert said the accident occurred when the van tried to make an illegal right turn as it was southbound on Main. The MetroRail train was also heading south, having just pulled away from the University of Houston-Downtown station.
