Dole Blasts Kerry on Purple Hearts, Urges Apology for War Protests
NewsMax.com ^ | 8/22/04 | Carl Limbacher

Severely wounded World War II combat hero Sen. Bob Dole questioned whether John Kerry deserved his three Purple Hearts on Sunday, and suggested that the top Democrat should apologize to his fellow Vietnam veterans for engaging in anti-war protests while they were still fighting the war.

"I respect his record - but three Purple Hearts, he never bled that I know of," Dole told CNN's "Late Edition." "They were all superficial wounds."

"As far as I know he never spent one day in the hospital, I don't think he draws any disability pay. He doesn't have any disability. And he's boasting about three Purple Hearts, when you think of some of the people who really got shot up in Vietnam."

Dole, who nearly died as a member of the US 10th Mountain Division from wounds he sustained during the 1944 invasion of Italy, is the nation's foremost champion of veterans causes, recently completing a successful mission to create a World War II memorial on the Capitol Mall this summer.

Drawing on those credentials, Dole called on Kerry to issue a public apology for calling his fellow Vietnam soldiers war criminals during his 1971 Senate testimony, telling CNN, "Maybe he should apologize to all the other two-and-a-half million veterans who served. He wasn't the only one who was in Vietnam."

"I think Sen. Kerry needs to talk about his Senate record, which is pretty thin." Dole added. "That's probably why he's talking about his war record, which is pretty confused."

Wow, this is huge. Dole does not spesk lightly on these matters

Next to John McCain, Bob Dole is a republican who gets (and deserves) lots of respect from the left. For him to dis Kerry like this is indeed a big, big deal.

By G-d, Dole is the one who they ridiculed when he ran against Clinton. Back then, the Stalinist liberals ridiculed his war injuries. They mocked his service. And now? Now the swine feign outrage that anyone question Kerry's mythological status as war hero.

Liberals are human wreckage.

I voted for Dole as well... he had the deck stacked against him, but he was the better man for the job.

When you compare Dole and Kerry and their presidential campaigns one thing stands out. Kerry is a braggart, regardless of the truth of his claims. Dole was gracious and humble about his service.

these are sweet & deadly remarks from Dole who witnessed Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia recantation on the floor of the Senate in 1986.

Kerry, citing his royal lineage, plans to challenge Bob Dole to a Wager of battel, as the trial by combat was called in English, appears to have become part of the common law of England in the Norman conquest.

When Kerry was asked what his preferred weapon against Dole would be Kerry replied, I plan to arm wrestle Mr. Dole. the loser shall be declared a liar.

I voted for Dole too, with full confidence in the type of Man of he is.

I know a lot of Conservatives disdain many compromises made by Politicians, Statesmen, etc., but Senator Dole was a Parlaimentarian, extraordinnaire (sp?), that takes an enormous amount of skill.

He always was, and always will be a most Honorable Man. I hope The Lord continues to give him a very long, healthy life. He is AMERICANA in all of its 'Land of the free, home of the brave', Glory!

Too bad he was so old when he going against Clinton. He had the stuff, but couldn't appeal to the public due to advanced age IMO.
He is a great man. I like him a lot, he's a real hero.

When Kerry was dispatched to go to An Thoi with Lieutenant Tedd Peck(now Captain, USNR), Peck told him, "Kerry, follow me no closer than a thousand yards. If you get any closer,I'll teach you what a real Purple Heart is."

Page 41, UNFIT for COMMAND

Kerry is for more Purple Hearts for American Servicemen.
He voted against money for bullet proof vests.

It was an honor to stand with Bob Dole on a cold, windy March day this year when he braved pneumonia to come out and support the troops at the Blue Star Mothers rally.

His support in Florida during the election fiasco was big morale boost for those of us rallying outside Cheney's house.
