Short and to the point for the media
How come when Swift Boat Vets speak you shut them up with
"Where you ON Kerry's boat?"
And then attack them.
So have you attacked William B. Rood also because he was not ON Kerry's boat.?

Mommy Heinz!
Help!
Look what the Washington Post said on 8/21/04
"Although Kerry campaign officials insist that they have published Kerry's full military records on their Web site (with the exception of medical records shown briefly to reporters earlier this year), they have not permitted independent access to his original Navy records. A Freedom of Information Act request by The Post for Kerry's records produced six pages of information. A spokesman for the Navy Personnel Command, Mike McClellan, said he was not authorized to release the full file, which consists of at least a hundred pages. "

The cool morning mist settled over the Cambodian border. The engine hummed, moving the swift boat slowly through the mined river. They weren't supposed to be here. It wasn't supposed to be this way. An illegal war conducted by President Nixon. It didn't make sense. Everything about this mission was wrong.
Lt. Kerry's mission was an impossible one. Find and silence Colonel Kurtz. Why had Colonel Kurtz fled to Cambodia? What madness had driven him to this? And why had they chosen him?
It didn't matter now. Now he had to find Colonel Kurtz. He had to silence this loose cannon. Something had to be done. Was he the man to do it? He didn't know. The personal demons had haunted him for far too long. He wanted to be patriotic. He needed to be patriotic. But a political career lay in wait for him back in the States.
Suddenly, the swift boat left the air from the thrust of the mine. Lt. Kerry didn't hestitate. He didn't second guess. He floored the throttle in retreat, hearing a scream from the stern. He looked back to see Jim Rassman in the water.
Could he leave him? Jim was just along for the ride. A ride taking them deep into the Cambodian jungle in search of a madman. The second passed, but Lt. Kerry knew he could leave no man behind.
The fifty caliber machine gun fire barked loudly from the shoreline. Then, he remembered it. He reached in his duffle bag at his side and pulled out his 8mm camera. He jerked the steering, turning the boat around and yelling, "Let's go boys. We're only gonna have one take at this!"
:) HA!

I have no quarrel with Rood
He served with honor.
Kerry on the other hand did not.
By Kerry's own admission he took part
AND saw others commit war crimes and did nothing.
That is not honorable.

I am not questioning his honor.
The one story that did stick in my mind was from this thread.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1196520/posts
"Kerry had personally contacted him and other crew members in recent days asking that they go public with their accounts of what happened on that day he said. Just how Kerry was able to convince Rood to suddenly go public after "5 years is unknown at this time.
His decision to come out and speak now and give his version of what happen and refuse to speak out on the issue again is troubling.
To: 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub
Good thinking. By Kerry's criteria, Rood's opinion doesn't count.
From the Coshocton Tribune, Dec. 22, 1971, by Murray Olderman, (NEA)
??? His third Purple Heart qualified Kerry to come home, although he was offered a job as an admiral's aide to stay.??? "I decided," he says, "to return and tell the people the real story. My sister Peggy was very mch involved in the antiwar movement then. Two weeks after I was back, I made a speech before the Rotary Club in Groton, Massachusetts, where my father lived, and I really let them have it. But I was fighting pressure, I knew there'd be ostracism and censorship. I was still in the navy as an admiral's aide in New York. What really triggered me was that a friend of mine was killed in Vietnam, Naval Lt. Don Drolz was blown up. He was an Annapolis grad and left a family. "So I got involved in Moratorium. I have a private pilot's license and flew one of the speakers around the New York area. Next day, I drafted a letter to the admiral requasting permission to resign...

The DNC is dusting off a video clip of one of the Swifties "speaking for Kerry" at a Senatorial re-election stop" The words spoken "in support" are; "noted for his bravado and was among the finest in the unit."
Wonder if there are any Vets out in Freeperland that would want those words used in a "Complete the Record" FitRep going before a selection board or who sat on selection boards that think these are words of praise?
Kerry did at campaign time and his DNC handlers still do.
I know if these words were used in a "Complete the Record" FitRep for a selection board that I was to have my records go before I'd be getting my Resume updated and start looking for a job on the outside.

Verrrrrrrry interesting....
Kerry's DD 214 lists a Silver Star with a combat V (for valor). As the major correctly observes, the V is never awarded with the Silver Star. But the actual wording on Kerrys DD 214 (see www.johnkerry.com) is: SILVER STAR WITH COMBAT V.
There is an abundance of anecdotal evidence that a combat V (called a Combat Distinguishing Device) is simply not awarded with a Silver Star. For example, a former Vietnam War POW told us that he has three SSs, and there was no V for any of them. Countless other Silver Star recipients all say the same thing. Why? Because, among other reasons, it would be redundant to award a Silver Star for gallantry (the statutory term) and then embellish it with a V for valor.
Most conclusive, however, is that the law is very clear about the award of Combat Distinguishing Devices.
As long as he was embelleshing the paperwork to include overwhelming forces of non-existent VC hidden in foxholes and intense enemy fire, he might as well have added the little V for Valor in the citation. (Did the approving signatories not even READ the applications he submitted for these self-nominated awards???)
