[Excerpt from full transcript. Russert is speaking with Tad Devine, Senior Adviser, Kerry-Edwards '04. -- ajf]
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5772535/
MR. RUSSERT: He didn't take office until January '69. Does Senator Kerry stand by that statement that on Christmas Eve of '68 he was physically in Cambodia?
MR. DEVINE: Right. Well, his memory, Tim, is being there, around there. And I'll tell you what happened on December 25th...
MR. RUSSERT: No--being there or around there?
MR. DEVINE: No, being right at the Cambodian border, over the Cambodian border. That's what he remembers. That's his clear memory. Now, Tim...
[end excerpt]
So according to Devine, Kerry remembers being "over the Cambodian border" on Christmas Eve of '68. It is Kerry's "clear memory" according to Devine.

Over the Cambodian border in which direction?
It is beginning to appear that Kerry is having delusions that he believes are real!!
ClownKerry was no where near Cambodia that Christmas and he knows it. Tim Russert does, too.
Everything the Kerry campaign is doing to try and get at the Swift Boat Vets is turning into nothing but a HUGE PR campaign for the Swifties.
Honest, sincere, seekers of the truth look at both sides in order to see what the big uproar is about. Those that do contrast Kerry and his attack dogs and their rabid attempts to smear the Swifties with the detailed, documented and reasonably presented information of the Swifties.
This is a big time loser for Kerry...as well it should be.
In essence, the Kerry campaign is funding the PR for the swifties. The best thing Kerry could have done was to ignore it and mitigate the damage to what the Swifites could afford themselves.
But Kerry and his ilk love a lie and so they must attack...and thereby bring more and more attention to the issue...and to the truth.
He appears to be snarling all the time when he discusses the issues.
A great point man! LOL!!!!!
Was this memory seared, barbequed, or deep fried into Kerry's mind....THIS time?
FLIP-FLOP-FLIP-FLOP-FLIP! LOL!
You ever had a dream that was so real that years later, you couldn't remember if it had really happened or not? I think this is Kerry's problem.
I've heard fisherman describe the one that got away better than the way the Cambodia story is being explained.
Gee it's too bad that John Kerry isn't alive to answer these questions for himself.
"Where did all that dark hair go, Tim? That's what I want to know."
The story keeps changing, but the Swift Boat Veterans story has never change, but they are the liars.
Lol.

YUP! I now believe Kerry's Cambodian story since we all know Nixon was inaugurated on December 29, 1968. As that prisoner said in Stalag 17: "I believe it. I believe it!"
| 'Twas Christmas in Cambodia' By Bette Anne Joyce Aug 14, 2004 |

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Cambodia
Not a enemy was stirring, not even in Laos
Their weapons were hung on the straw huts with care,
In hopes that delusional St. Kerry soon would be there;
The Cambodians were nestled all snug in their beds,
While John Kerry had visions of an attack seared in his head.
The enemy settled down for a long winter's nap,
When out on in the rice field there arose such a clatter;
They sprang from their beds to see what was the matter.
Away to the window they flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen mud
had given sight to smug John Kerry, the crazy thug!
Then, what to their wondering eyes should appear,
A miniature swift boat
With Jolly Ole St. Kerry at the helm, so lively and quick,
They knew in a moment it must be another Kerry trick
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Hey, Ho Chi and Ding Dong, and Chow Ming Young
I'm ready to kill you and rip out your tongue!
To the top of the rice field! To the top of the wall
the Cambodians dashed away! Dashed away all.
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the straw huts the coursers they flew,
With the boat full of weapons, Kerry knew what to do!
And then, in a twinkling, they heard on the roof
the prancing and pawing of Kerry's big hoof.
As they held up their hands, and turned around,
John Kerry had burned their village down to the ground.
He was dressed in war paint, from his head to his foot. His clothes were all
tarnished with ashes and soot;
Kerry rifled through their belongings and grabbed all their loot.
He behaved like a War Criminal stuffing his pack, for this were the actions of
a Cowardly Rat!
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
Alas! this was the real John Kerry.
the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
the Cambodians flesh was burning beneath.
He sprang to his swifty, to his team gave a whistle,
and away they all paddled like the down of a thistle.
Kerry stopped the swifty, he wanted to pause as
"Visions of Presidency" danced in his head,
He'll campaign as a War Hero, the Cambodians are dead!
If the other Vets dispute me, I'll smear them with shame
I'll call them liars and frauds, after all, that's the name of the game.
I'll speak with great oratory the voice of command;
the voters won't realize its just another Kerry scam!
I'm dreaming of the Khmer Rouge .....
We couldn't make this stuff up if we tried..
How many times have they changed this story? I lost count a while back.
According to Unfit for Command, Kerry really spent Christmas trying to find the Bob Hope USO show and got lost.
He put his crew in danger by "blundering into one of the most dangerous canals in Vietnam, a canal that to those who knew the area was notiorious for Viet Cong ambushes."
Gee..I wonder what he was smoking at the time...makes ya wonder..
Yes he did. Nixon was inaugurated on December 20, 1968. The inauguration was a month early because it was a Leap Year.
I think it is 10 now......but wait Douglas Brinkley is about to give us number 11.
Jim is that in the book??
Did Kerry flip over the Cambodian border and flop back?
"I'll NEVER be over the Cambodian border."
/Airplane
Kerry and his mouthpieces have so many different versions of the C in C story, that none of them know which one the others are defending.
There are about a dozen different versions in circulation now.
Last I heard, Kerry was saying the whole thing was CIA and hush hush. [How convenient for Kerry.]
Kerry's defenders' vehement defenses are becoming laughable. As one is on air defending a certain version, Kerry is giving another version in some speech.
Did Kerry flip over the Cambodian border and flop back?

Damn.
if this is the kerry camp's tactic for dealing with the "christmas in cambodia" story, it's suicide.
:-)
I was on guard over some C-rations somewhere in Deutschland (Old West German part of that country), and there was this guy and his date in a car. The brakelights kept coming on, and going off, and coming on, and going off.
Next thing you know somebody tossed a round into one of the lights.
Guy didn't miss a lick.
Then we had to find a round somewhere so this guy could switch his guardpost later on.
He offered about a pound and a half of what he called "hashish" in trade to someone. He had this stuff on his person. One of the Namvets tested it and pronounced it fake stuff. So, next deal was to have the guy fall through a hole in the roof of the C-rations dump (which was more like a cave with a big door on the front, and a concrete roof with ventilation holes). Then he could lose his rifle in the fall, along with the bullets.
He didn't like that idea. I didn't follow up on what happened after that, but he did score some dope one day and ended up in Landstuhl hospital agitated about spiders all over his body.
Kerry's Christmas sounded terribly contemplative ~ not at all like mine that year. We had half the Red Army sitting about 10 miles away, busy occupying Czechoslovakia at the time, and the threat of nuclear anihilation was real. Guess when you are just out there making the beerruns for the guys patroling the Mekong you can dwell on deep thoughts.
One thing for sure, I knew Nixon wasn't yet President, but I certainly looked forward to it.
Kind of off subject, but has everybody here seen that cute animation of Kerry and Bush, if not, please got to URL:

"Senator Kerry sir, Just before you went to Cambodia.... did you inhale?"
Has anyone seen him and Carville in the same room?
Did Kerry inhale and take his boat and crew on a dangerous road trip to try to attend the Bob Hope USO Christmas show at Dong Tam and end up getting lost in one of the most dangerous canals in Vietnam?
It was Kerrey.....not J Kerry.
Quoth Robin Williams (A worthy Liberal.) "If you remember the sixties, you weren't really there."
It appears sKerry's media munchkins have adopted Goebells philosphy of "tell a lie often enough and people will begin to believe it". What they forgot to read is the next paragraph in that course book of "Lying 101". YOU GOT TO TELL THE SAME LIE, NOT DIFFERENT VERSIONS!!
IMHO, Kerry is simply a self-promoting liar.
He was there in Nam...in harm's way...and for that I give him credit. But that's where it ends. He took abject advantage of his service, embellishing it, lying about it and lying about and betraying his compatriots and his nation. He has no honor, no integrity, no virtue.
He would sell the entire country out the same way he did his comrades...in an instant.
You are missing the point entirely, my friend.
The thing that really matters is that Kerry was "serious" about it.
And he did it "better".
Oh yea, he was more "sensitive", too, when he was there.
Glad we got that straight.
LVM
Is that really in the book? The USO part?
absolutely.
Yeah JeFnK an I remember meeting Santa Claus!

"Given the easy navigation by radar and maps of the rivers involved- not much more difficult than driving a car- Kerry had just performed a feat of reverse navigation worthy of Wrong Way Corrigan."
