I think I heard him say that he started in the enlisted ranks - so the guy is pretty plain spoken and down to earth.

"I enlisted as a private soldier."

To David Letterman, in a wonderful interview, as I recall, just after he retired from the U.S. Army. Among other things, he joked about flunking out of college the first go-round. Very down to earth.

I'm a big fan of General Franks, and while it sure can't hurt Pres. Bush, I doubt that this endorsement will help much. Put it this way -- how many Tommy Franks fans were there, who had NOT already decided to vote for Pres. Bush?

Kerry was native born, a citizen of the US and over 35 years old. I think that's about it for qualifications in the constitution.

Not quite.

Amendment XIV: Section. 3.

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
