Lack of strong personal leadership skills that draw people to them through personal and charismatic efforts. Like it or not, this is mainly true in business, church, as well as government. This same shortcoming is what hurt Bob Dole in '96, and another good example is the guy who challenged Swarzenegger in the primaries in CA...he was so memorable, I forgot his name already.
Just MHO...I like Tancredo but realistically, he doesn't have a chance in a national election.

You need a Governor...... Mitt/Rice sounds good. Maybe Mitt/Ridge or Mitt/Coleman. Go on the attack in the north with the south covered. However I do think Ridge might run too. Hey you notice no southerns? Maybe Thompson will quit law and order and ran. And do not count out McCain running.
I like Kasich but haven't heard much about him the last couple years.
I dunno how a dynasty is viewed by the American people. I think if W goes out on a high note it would make it much more acceptable. The Kennedys have just had way too many family scandals for anybody outside of die hard libs to put up with them.

Kasich is a good man, but I don't think he has the name recognition needed.
I know Racicot from Governor of MT (from there and still have plenty of family there.) He would be a good choice, but also doesn't have big name recognition.

If Rudy could get over all this gun control nonsense I could see myself supporting him. He is without a doubt an A-1 national security person. I think he would shoot first and ask questions later where national security threats are concerned. That is one of the two most important issues for me, in addition to the second amendment.
As for Mitt.. Look at the way he recently helped pass an AWB in Mass which is really worse than the federal one. If he has no more care for the constitutional rights than that, then he certainly doesn't speak for me, and I couldn't find myself voting for him.
Any ticket with Tom Tancredo on it would get beaten like a drum.
In August 1996, we had no idea that a Texas Govenor that had been in office for less than 2 years would win in 2000. This exercise is meaningless right now.
Let's wait about 2.5 years.
