ANYONE...
ANYONE who can afford to pay for the ad should be allowed to post an ad. It's called freedom of speech. Otherwise you get veiled crap like F-911 disguised as a "film" or "documentary" when it was a 120 minute anti-Bush political ad.
McCain-Feingold is a violation of the first amendment.
Does this mean if I create an "ad" and run on my website, I'm in violation of something? It shouldn't.
If the SwiftVets are lying, sue them for libel or slander or whatever, but otherwise, they have the right to run the ad.

OK John Edwards, you said this was a test of character for President Bush. I guess he passed, not that you'd know anything about character...

You know Mike, I'd agree with you except for one thing. Taking the high road counts for nothing in politics today. With the incessant anti-Bush media spin, Bush needs to start playing hardball now. Attack moveon.org. Ask who's funding them. Don't let the media spin that Bush is agreeing with them about stopping the Swift Vets.

He had to? Yes, he had to...or the headline the next day would be
Bush Fights Campaign Finance Reform

My personal opinion is that Bush signed the CFR, because it would have been politically damaging for him to NOT sign it. I think he was counting on the Supreme Court to declare it unconstitutional, which it is, except that they didn't.
What I would really like to know is what was wrong with all the Republicans in Congress, who were the ones who could have and should have stopped it, and didn't.

Bush doesn't control Swifties. Never did. Many swifties are Dems anyway. Besides, what's the Prez going to do? What can he do? He could seek to abolish CFR.

And what's more, the Swifties STILL have the book at #1. THAT has nothing to do with 527s.

Yes, he had to...or the headline the next day would be Bush Fights Campaign Finance Reform Ther're going to say that anyway.
To: kenth
Since you saw the press conference, what did the President actually say? He said [paraphrasing] all the 527 ads should be pulled because unregulated soft money is bad for the system.

And I'm sure that's exactly how the headlines and soundbites will be portrayed. I must have just imagined the bottom of the hour news reports on Bush "denouncing the Swift Vets."

Your are so right! Just got through looking at CBS News website. The headline for the lead story reads "Bush: Time to Sink SwiftBoat Ads". As if there is no such thing as MoveOn.org. Bush will have to mention MoveOn.org by name in order for the MSM to mention it.

Thanks in advance...
To: Use It Or Lose It
Yes, I can just see the press turning on their favorite RINO. Bush should either have kept silent or said that he supports free speech, even though he signed McCain-Feingold into law.

Not what he said at all. He made a good move. More money has been spent attacking Bush with these type ads. The SBVfT has said this isn't about Bush. They will continue their fight because they can and we all know that.

You can use that same rationale for the pubbie congress as some have used for Bush. They had to vote for it. Courageous leaders, all. It seems the most important thing to any of them is to get re-elected.
