'Hardball' Accused of Going Soft: GOP Advised to Boycott at Convention
NY Post ^

Posted on 08/23/2004 3:28:37 PM PDT by GulliverSwift

August 23, 2004 -- REPUBLICAN insiders are giving cable-TV political host Chris Matthews the cold shoulder — believing that he has gone over to the Kerry camp — according to a published report.

U.S. News and World Report says Matthews protested too sharply about the Bush campaign's editing of an MSNBC "Hardball" interview with Kerry posted on the party's negative site, www.kerryoniraq.com.

As a result, GOP officials are quietly advising Republicans not to go on his show.

" 'Hardball' may seem more like badminton during the Republican National Convention," the magazine quoted one GOP insider as saying.

"Hardball" executive producer Tammy Haddad didn't know her show was being blackballed, she said.

"We beat everybody up," she told the magazine.

MSNBC has been trying their hardest to woo conservative viewers, and then that little prick shows what a partisan @$%!* he is.

I think at the convention Republicans should make an extra effort to appear on Joe Scarborough's show.

The article also doesn't talk about his nasty behavior to Michelle Malkin

Of course, if little Chrisy apologizes for his behavior, then he can be forgiven.....maybe.

There's no chance of a fair shake with Matthews or Olbermann. Staying away is the best policy.

Let's take a look at how to play the new Hardball:

When I was in my early 20's I worked for CNN as a temp at the 88 and 92 RNCs. I met Tammy Hadaad, when she was the producer of Larry King Live. She sucked then and apparently still does. Meeting people associated with television only served to confirm what many here have stated often: these people live in a dream world completely disconnected from reality.

No, MSNBC is not trying to woo conservative viewers, not since they hired that new head guy, that has been moving the station to the left of CNN. Remember when he first came there, this winter and the Joe Scarborough show got really bad. Pat Buchanan would be his only conservative against two or three lefties. It only lasted about two weeks and the viewers complained enough that Scarborough was able to get some control back, but he still has to have that one lefty flunky on regularly to try to ridicule any conservative guest that he might have. (I haven't watched lately, so my opinion may be out of date).

Yep, Christine went over the line. Can we say he's the press version of HOWARD Dean.

There's not the slightest doubt that Matthews has gone over the line in his partisan zeal to get Kerry elected. It's pathetic.

He's not a journalist. He's a hack. Would many Republicans volunteer to be interviewed by James Carville as a host? There's no difference.

Does anyone else think Chris Matthews is cracking up because of his loss of popularity? Remember when he was one of the hottest political shows around? Now he's at the bottom and he can't handle it. He thinks going negative works...it did against Clinton!

Hell I've even heard Rush change his opinion. Rarely but when objectivity is swayed with reason you yield.

IMO, "bought by billionaire foreign national George Soros" instead of "gone over to the Kerry camp" would be more effective and probably more accurate.

Taking Michelle Malkin to task proved to be wrong in two ways - he was unprepared as to the topic and his distain for women of her ilk (brainy) became apparent...

Remember the outrage when that big bully Rick Lazio dared invade Hillarys space during the NY senate race? He dared walk over and hand her a paper and almost got crucified for it.

Heard Michelle on Rush after this happened and he sounded a little in awe of her for the way she stood her ground. Matthews came looking like an *ss but no media outrage here.

I don't think he should be forgiven for his LAZINESS in not even reading the book before trying to slam it -- or for the fact that he was TOO STUPID to realize that "self-inflicted wound" does not mean that it was done intentionally.

he was doing his job as a reporter by making her support her argument

He did nothing of the sort. He not even once gave her more than 2 seconds to explain her position. On top of that, the conversation was about a subject of which he was completely ignorant. Not only did he neglect to read the book, he stole Michelle's from the green room.

I used to like Chris, but he seems to have become much more partisan -- just like the MSNBC web site. The way he treated John O'Neill and Malkin was beyond the pale. Hardball and MSNBC seem to have completely lost all objectivity in their drive to get Kerry elected. BTW, even if you're watching other shows on MSNBC, your still adding viewers to MSNBC, thus helping to keep the current blatantly pro-Democrat version of MSNBC viable...

On the Swift Boat / Kerry issue, the MSNBC web site has been so slanted, it's laughable...

Hate Crimes have to meet the following specifications.

1. Perp MUST be WHITE Victim MUST be NON-WHITE.
2. Perp MUST be STRAIGHT Victim must be HOMOSEXUAL.
3. Perp MUST be CHRISTIAN Victim must be NON-CHRISTIAN.

There can be NO HATE crimes unless one or all of the above are FACTS.

It seemed to me that he was doing his job as a reporter by making her support her argument.

If so, then cutting her off every time she tried to *make* her argument by answering his questions was a mighty strange way to do it.

He may have been a little terse,

Buy a dictionary. All definitions of "terse" include the word "concise", and Matthews was anything *but* concise in the way he motormouthed while talking over Malkin.

but I suspect he would do the same thing to a left wing shill.

You suspect very incorrectly.

Here a word count analysis of the Michelle muggings by Chris where he said she talked 80% of the time and that saying he wouldn't let her answer is an old conservative ploy. Well the totals are in Chrissy - 820 words, Michelle - 500 and Willie ( who is still trying to determine why he was on the show) 300. These are rough numbers but Chrissy spoke for 51% of the time compared to 49% for the combine Michell and Willie team. Stick it Chrissy.

Steaming load of BS. It's in O'Neill's book: Kerry wounded himself when he fired an M79 grenade into rice bags, and caught ricochets of rice and shrapnel in the butt.

DID YOU READ THE BOOK? Chrissy Matthews didn't.

She didn't PHRASE or EXPLAIN it very well; "self-inflicted" sounds like an intentional foot-shot. But the rabid Matthews didn't allow her to explain.

Matthews is lib-dem garbage.

You are... Nah, I don't want to get banned. I'll let the AMs handle it, chump.
