I don't believe Kerry has shrapnel in his leg either.
He just says that to embellish his Vietnam mystique, and because he knows there is no way to check it out, UNLESS someone gets access to his medical records.
Which of course would be next to impossible.
Also, when Kerry fell from his bicycle, the part of his body he likely wanted to check out would be his back, hips, and legs, EXACTLY where the phantom shrapnel would be.
Husband isn't sure.
He hates to voice an "uncertain" opinion.

Similarly, patients with artificial heart valves, metallic ear implants, bullet fragments, and chemotherapy or insulin pumps should not have MRI scanning.

It sure sounds like, from other freeper research, that the question is asked on the questionnaire. Depending on WHERE the MRI is conducted, he wouldn't be eligible for one if he REALLY has metal in his leg.
This is stupid - the Rice he still carries from Vietnam wouldn't effect an MRI...
That's my guess, too. The metal will distort the field.

Kerry had the MRI shortly before the surgery to INSERT the shrapnell, knowing he would shortly be running for president after signing off on the McCain/Feingold bill.
