Kerry's Freudian Projection is Showing

The distinct mechanism of projecting own unconscious or undesirable characteristics onto an opponent is called Freudian Projection.

On August 3, 2004, Matt Drudge reported:

The Kerry campaign is planning to vigorously counter the charges and will accuse the veteran's groups of being well-financed by a top Bush donor from Texas, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"They hired a goddamn private investigator to dig up trash!" charged a top Kerry adviser traveling with the senator late Tuesday. "This is pay for play, and the dirtiest of all dirty tricks ever played on a candidate for the presidency. How low can they go?"

Freudian Projection: "A defense mechanism in which the individual attributes to other people impulses and traits that he himself has but cannot accept. It is especially likely to occur when the person lacks insight into his own impulses and traits."

Today, John Kerry said:
"The Bush campaign and its allies have turned to the tactics of fear and smear, because they can't talk about jobs, health care, energy independence," Kerry told the packed audience inside Cooper Union's Great Hall. "They can't or they refuse to talk about the real issues that matter to the American people."
Interestingly, WorldNetDaily.com is reporting that
Democratic operatives reportedly are working feverishly to compile incriminating dossiers on members of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth who have publicly opposed John Kerry's candidacy.

According to a report in the New York Daily News, one of the targets is veteran James Zumwalt, son of illustrious Adm. Elmo Zumwalt. The paper says it has received part of the dossier on Zumwalt, which claims he "attempted to kill himself with an overdose of prescription drugs,"

after the murder of his ex-wife's fiance, John Kowalczyk, and was "convicted of reckless driving after chasing Kowalczyk at a high speed on the highway."

Viewed in this context, it is fairly clear that John Kerry attributes to other people impulses and traits that he himself has but cannot accept.

At the same time he had investigators digging up dirt about the personal lives of veterans who oppose his candidacy in order to "smear" (gosh, I hate that word!) them, he was accusing his them of hiring private investigators. Of course they didn't need to - they are first- hand witnesses.

Now that he has completed his investigations and is doing document-dumps to friendly media, he accuses his opponents of "smearing" him. To paraphrase Kerry,
the Kerry campaign and its allies have turned to the tactics of fear and smear, because they can't talk about issues raised for which there is much evidence such as the Christmas in Cambodia incident, VC the Dog, or his first Purple Heart. Instead, he brings up sad personal tragedies. Instead of arguing fact, he engages in the logical fallacy known as ad hominem.

Kerry quoted Harry Truman today, "Harry Truman had that sign on the desk and it said, 'The buck stops here.'"

A measure of a mans leadership abilities is how he handles pressure. Rather than signing a Standard Form 180

which would allow the full release of his military records and, assuming he is telling the truth, quash most of the attacks against him, he is resulting to the very dirty tricks that he is simultaneously accusing his opponents of.

Harry S. Truman also obliterated two Japanese cities with atom bonbs, killing masses of people to stop the evil.

Did anyone ever accuse of him of not "fighting a sensitive war"?
