The president continued to defend his own service, saying, "On the other hand, I served my country. Had my unit been called up, I would have gone."
Those remarks came as statements concerning Bush's National Guard service by former Texas House Speaker Ben Barnes were publicized.
Barnes said he was "more ashamed at myself than I've ever been" because he helped Bush and the sons of other wealthy families get into the Texas National Guard so they could avoid serving in Vietnam.
"I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard and I'm not necessarily proud of that, but I did it," Barnes, a Democrat, said May 27 in a video clip recorded before a group of Kerry supporters in Austin.

"I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard
See the ellipsis in bold? What text did these scumbags leave out? I'll tell you what... they left out the part where Barnes said he got Bush into the Guard WHILE HE WAS LT GOVERNOR. Even a cursory look at this Rat Scumbag's bio shows that he wasn't Lt. Govenor until 1969. Bush entered the Guard in the beginning half of 1968. Barnes was a representative to the UN in Geneva during 1968. Might be a little hard for this Rat sack of crap to pull strings in Texas while in Geneva, wouldn't you say? That's why the Rat puke said he did it while Lt. Governor. But he wasn't Lt. Governor when Bush entered the Guard...
Thus, those filthy treasonous pukes at the LA Times decided to employ the ellipsis to omit this inconvenient fact, and instead replace it with their lying puke propoganda.

LOL! Was Barnes in Cambodia too?
What is it with Dems continually confusing 1968 and 1969?
Having their acid trip flashback days back in 68-69.
I just read that Barnes's claim had been debunked.
Damn, they lie with impunity, courtesy of our dishonest,
agenda-driven, Bush-hating press.
typical media bias, lying on purpose. They cut that part out because they knew it was a lie but they still used the quote in their article.... amazing.
This is INDEED outrageous. That use of an ellipsis was almost downright -criminal- from -any- journalistic standard, an absolutely obvious attempt to misrepresent an easily provable lie as truth!

Most druggies I've met don't have very much seared... SEARED into their memories.
Look what those filthy lying Rat Scumbags did here... they cite the following quote: "I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard

This is the same paper that ran a photo composite of 2 digital images as a photo from Afghanistan or Iraq last year. The LA TIMES, USA TODAY, NEW YORK TIMES, and other "established" papers have been exposed as the liars they are, ready, willing, and able to fabricate news as they see fit.
Thanks Backhoe.

| John Kerry's "The New Soldier" -- Why Is This Book So Hard to Find? Kerry supporters are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to get a copy of Kerry's hard-to-find book, The New Soldier. Some of those bidding on Ebay reveal why. (PRWEB) -- An unusual thing is happening over at Ebay. One of John Kerrys books, The New Soldier, received a bid of $355 and didnt even meet its reserve price. Another copy of the book is up to $147.50 and the bidding isn't over.

The Old Media is dying. And they're becoming more unhinged by the day. The Big City liberal newspapers can't well defend Kerry's Vietnam record so they look at Bush's again. It won't damage the President cause the truth is on his side with respect to National Guard service and they haven't found 250 National Guard Vets to say the President is unfit to command. All they found was one Democratic political hack who says "Whoops, I thought it was a mistake to help Bush join the NG!" If that's the best they can do, they really are lazy as well as excessively partisan. I'd have expected them to find the goods. I give this scribbling that passes for journalism an "F." The public knows a partisan hit piece when it sees one.
Great catch. Someone needs to contact the editor and throw this in their face. This is something straight out of Pravda in the days of the Soviet Union.
The idiots in the press tend to forget that W's father was in WWII. He would not have tried to get his son's unit or his son out of going should they have been called up. The press always tries to make out the Bush's to be some kind of power hungry family. They have the Kennedy's to use as an example. Why do they hate the Bush family? Because they are a good family and that drives the liberal press crazy!
The article is technically correct that Barnes was also Speaker of the House during that time he was the UN rep. But he specifically said that he was Lt. Gov. when he helped Bush, which is not true.
Good work. Your post is a perfect example why the Swift Boat Vets have marked the day America turned its face away from the MSM. The culmlative effect of a thousand cuts like yours will bleed them to death.
In yesterday's AJC it said, " . . .Barnes says in the posted excerpt, which misstates the office he held at the time: He was actually House speaker"
House speaker??? At least they admit Barnes wasn't Lt. Gov. at the time, but they're still lying to cover the fact Barnes was in Geneva.
Thanks for the correction. But I'm confused. Was Barnes living in Geneva at the time?
He may have still technically held the post of House Speaker in 1968, I dunno... but Texas has a part-time legislature, so if they weren't in session, he was most likely in Geneva. That's certainly what his own resume conveys.
He damn well wasn't Lt. Gov in 1968...
I do not know. But Texas does not have a full-time legislature, so he could hold the title as Speaker of the House at the same time he was appointed to the UN position. The thing to emphasize here, IMHO, is not the UN spot, as we don't even know how much time it entailed, but the fact that he said he was Lt. Governor at the time of this request, but he was really the Speaker of the House. That's not a minor error, as they are different positions.
But here's something I found interesting while doing a google search on this. I don't know if this has been posted before:
The speaker, Ben Barnes, intervened on Bush's behalf sometime in late 1967 or early 1968 at the request of a good friend of Bush's father, then a Republican congressman from Houston, the sources said. The friend, Sidney A. Adger, was a prominent Houston business executive who died in 1996. The Guard official contacted at his behest, Brig. Gen. James M. Rose, died in 1993.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/campaigns/wh2000/stories/barnes092199.htm
How convenient that both people were dead by the time he spun this story. If Barnes had this involvement, why wouldn't have come out with this in 1994, when Ann Richards was in a losing battle with Bush? Because Adger was still alive, and could have refuted the story!
They're reduced to people who've been in the same state as Bush at some time in his life. We'll soon see articles by his first grade teacher...'I passed this sniveling coward onto second grade. He was a liar and a bully and wet his pants, blah, blah, blah.' Or someone who stopped behind him at a red light...'I nearly rear-ended the jerk. I had a chance to kill him then and blew it....' Kerry's beyond desperate to put out drivel like this. Things must be looking hopeless at RAT headquarters. His candidacy is dead. Maybe we'll see mass firings, new staff dragged to Nantucket to dig him up again. And while he's 'resting', his stooges will be running around sliming Bush and the Swifties and RAT mobs on drugs will act out in NY.
What's funny is that Kerry's backers say "we must look at the issues". If we are not going to consider the man and his past now, when are we to do it? The issues will be discussed during the debates.
The LAT is just using the same edited quote that the AP is now using.

This linked story seems to have the facts right, and the play back and forth, as I understand it.
The best thing about the Kerry campaign is that every day they f**k up. Every single day without exception.
And today (Sunday) is a beautiful day.
