Ah, it finally loaded. Here's the story...
Embattled President George W. Bush has nixed plans for Republican supporter Britney Spears to perform at the party's New York convention this week - fearing she's too raunchy. The unwitting star of Michael Moore's controversial documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11, was initially keen to allow the Me Against The Music singer to join the bill but changed his mind at the last minute after the news was leaked to furious party hardliners.
According to insiders, Bush was already trying to placate the descenters who were angered by the decision to invite Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to speak at the crucial conference ahead of November's Presidential elections.
One Republican source whispers, "We are a serious political party and really don't need the likes of Britney to promote us.
"Besides which, with the headlines she's been recently attracting we think she'd do more harm than good to the Bush cause.
"We don't get what Britney has to offer our cause."

I seriously doubt she would have worn that.
He should have let her on. She may have gathered some 18-25 support for Dubya.

I am sorry, although its alright for Bush and the RNC to not allow Britney to perform. The language used in this article by the republicans are rather too harsh. "Need the likes of Britney" whats that supposed to mean?

... and, once again: the GOP manages to further cement its self-limiting, self-destructive image as the party of priggish, hidebound reactionaries...
precisely at the point where it's struggling to maintain a wafer-thin lead over its opponent going into '04, and the most important presidential election of our lifetimes.

To: newgeezer
I didn't know she was originally under consideration. That Bush would get so directly involved in such a programming decision, or that whether Britney Spears were to appear at the GOP convention would be a decision that would perculate up to the President of the United States, sounds suspicious to me.
Unless Bob Dole invited her.

Britney Spears doesn't belong at a Republican Convention she is more for the MTV crowd. Her, Janet Jackson & Madonna are horses of different colors and should stick to what they know best which is entertaining the juveniles & teenagers.
Note: Let's not involve President Bush with it, he has nothing to say to who's going to be there or not.
