ZOT!!! Stop the war on trolls, there's gonna be a backlash!

STOP THE WAR ON HEROISM
As an American, I am very upset about how people are attacking Sen. John Kerry's (USN '66-'70) war record. I can't help but think about how these attacks will effect soldiers serving so bravely today. I am writing to show my support to ALL soldiers that server during a time of war, regardless of your service length, location or level of danger you are in.
When critics refer to Kerry's service as "only 4 months," they are completely dismissing his first tour of duty on the USS Gridley. What message does this send to soldiers currently aboard ships escorting aircraft carriers, rescuing pilots who ditch at sea, providing plane guard duty, coordinating anti-aircraft warfare efforts, and relaying communications -- all duties performed by the USS Gridley in it's service history. If you were not 'in country,' do they think your service doesn't count? Does that mean they dismiss all those who are serving on ships such as the USS Abraham Lincoln?
Every person who has refereed to John Kerry's service in Vietnam as "only 4 months" is insulting every US solider in "Operation Iraqi Freedom" that has not set foot on Iraqi soil. They should be ashamed.
THEN, to attack someone for not being wounded badly enough? To ridicule a wounded soldier! Shameful.
America's best politicians, Republican and Democrat, are those who have served in the military. THEY are the true backbone of our government. I hope seeing Kerry's war record used as a weapon against him does not turn off any returning vet from wanting a political career. We need them!
EVERY SOLDIERS SERVICE COUNTS. And, I thank them for it.

I don't ridicule a wounded soldier. I ridicule an officer who gets scratched with his own grenade shrapnel and then runs off looking for a Purple Heart.

From the frying pan into the fire.
True, Kerry was only "in-country" for a paltry 4 months.
He was "on station" on the Gridley also for a paltry 4 months.
Every other Vietnam Veteran who claims any number of "tours" is referring to the 12 to 13 month timeframe required.
Kerry claims to have TWO tours in Vietnam, with most veterans, equating a minimum 24 months.
Kerry served barely a THIRD of that time.
Semantics...the next level of attack.

There is no "everyone" here. There are Veterans who were there making contrary claims to other Veterans who were there. So are you saying that only the 18 or so Veterans who agree with Kerry's version of events can speak, that the 254 other Swift boat Veterans should just shut up? How unAmerican of you.

all this up, and apologize to Kerry.

No one that I have heard who matters has maligned his service. There have, however, been legitimate questions about exactly "how" the medals were acquired and what kind of a leader he is.
Are you telling me that if a soldier fradulently does something we should look the other way?
JfKerry brought the scrutiny down by making Vietnam central to his campaign. Go bark up another tree and welcome to FR.

I served 10+ years active duty. I have a cousin on the Vietnam memorial wall. Kerry is the one who made is Vietnam service an issue and qualifier to be president. It is only fair then that his claims about his service be fully and properly examined. Furthermore, he based his anti-war activities upon his Vietnam 'experience' and HE denegrated people like my cousin. He can't have it both ways! Now crawl back to your hole troll, its zot time (signed on Aug 31, 2004)

The difference young troll is that most veterans dont hang there entire career on there political service. Most politicians have never served and the lefts greatest hero,FDR, had never served either, same as Abe Lincoln and others. Do you understand the position of CIC? It is to be a CIVILIAN in charge of military, no prior military experience required(or at least the consitution I read doesnt mention it as a requirement)

You're welcome.
Please keep in mind that every serviceperson's enlistment
is a commitment to our nation AND their fellow servicemen,
John Kerry did NOT fulfill that commitment, it was for him
a steppingstone to political office and nothing more.

The problem with many Vets about Kerry is that not only did he use his service as a tool for political gain, but that he sided with our nations enemy, The North Vietnamese Communists, while Americans were still fighting and were being tortured by them in captivity.
That is treason. I don't care if he served, where and how long. He took the same oath as I did, and he broke it. he should not be a senator, he should be in prison.

Good thing Kerry and the whole Demorat party never criticized the Presidents service then. Why are you not saying how wrong that is? Was he not similar to the soldiers you now feel should be so insulted? Why should a man wishing to be president not be open to scrutiny?

Oh, we support real heroes, just not fake, self-declared ones.
John Kerry stole his valor from the real war heroes of the Vietnam war, many who never got the credit they were due, and still many more who were demonized by John Kerry's own words in 1971, calling them baby killers and comparing American soldiers everywhere to Genghis Kahn.
In John Kerry's eyes there was only one "war hero" in Vietnam, himself, and all the rest were "war criminals".
