Gay people just want the same health insurance, tax breaks etc. that married heterosexuals enjoy.

Government is giving tax breaks to married couples for a reason: the expectation of children.

Homosexuals can still get married, it's just not recognized by the government. All you have to do is find clergyman. The government is not telling you what relationship to enter, who to love, how to act, blah, blah. Homosexuals are not second-class people because they are treated like everybody else. Actually, homosexuals are a preferred class because you can commit a hate crime against gays but not a straight person. Also, dissagreement on gay marriage doesn't make me a homophobe. Just like being against illegal immigration doesn't make me a xenophobe.

Once again, it's all about money. And you want to use tax money of people who don't want to support gay marriages. Get it?

Yes, the Michigan voters should vote on it. What I'm saying is that there have always been gay people, there always will be whether you like it or not. It serves no purpose to withhold tax breaks, inheritence rights, rights to insurance etc. from them. I think that a lot of republicans feel threatened when they see flamboyant gay demonstrations on TV, but under all that overstatement, they just want basic rights that are identical to core rights that republicans endorse. Instead of getting uptight about their natural inclinations I think republicans should be more cool headed. I'm in new york here, so I'm more in the guiliani/pataki camp on this.

Unless Bush identifies with this amendment or the supporters of this amendment ties it to Bush, the voters may not even know which candidate supports it. The voters will say it's a local matter, and the presidential election is a national matter. Hence two separate matters which a voter may choose differently, no effect.

People on election day are going to the polls because of the Presidential election, not because an amendment.

Except the example of Missouri says otherwise. 70,000 people voted ONLY on the same sex marriage issue and nothing else on the ballot. Since that was also the democrat primary election it would seem to me that the 70,000 voters had no interest in who the dem candidates were going to be but instead were motivated to the polls by the same sex marriage issue.

Highest primary turn out ever. The issue that caused it was "gay" marriage.

A person that did go to the primaries, who was not a DemocRAT, and voted for the amendment, would and will go to vote in the General Election and vote for Bush anyway. A DemocRAT that that voted in the primaries, will vote in the General Election and vote for Kerry. Only if the amendment is tied to Bush, it will help among the independents.

Get back to us when a man's semen fertilizes another man colon and a baby pops out of his ass.

And the amendment will be tied to Bush... there will be tremendous $$$$ from the Michigan Family Research Council and similar organizations making exactly that point.

The President himself pointed out last night that Kerry voted against DOMA. That rhetoric will accelerate in every state where this is on the ballot.

We need someone to compile a 50-state overview of key ballot measures that will drive GOP turnout, Senate/gubernatorial races, and also whether Nader is on the ballot in those states.

Without children, civilization dies. But raising children is very expensive. So for those who choose to help society in this way, there is an appropriate reduction in the taxes they pay to society.

Of course, income taxes altogether should be eliminated.
