NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former President Bill Clinton has checked into a New York hospital and will undergo heart bypass surgery, U.S. networks reported on Friday.
ABC and CBS television reported that Clinton, 58, had checked into New York Presbyterian Hospital for quadruple heart bypass surgery.
A Democratic Party official told Reuters that Clinton had checked into the hospital with "chest pains." The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, could not confirm that Clinton would undergo bypass surgery.
CNN quoted a source close to the former president as saying the surgery could take place as early as Saturday.
Clinton, the 42nd U.S. president, promised at the Democratic convention in July to be a "foot soldier" in John Kerry's race against Republican President Bush.
Even though the guy's a dog, I hope he gets through this one with flying colors.
Well, I for one, as much as I thought he was the wrong person to be president for this country, cannot wish Clinton ill will.
So, I'm wishing him well.
All politics aside, I wish him the best.
I hope they give him a private room after the surgery. With a sink.
I guess it isn't a total surprise. He was a junk food junkie and he blew up in weight after he left office. It looks like he lost quite a bit over the past year--maybe he had a medical warning to do so.
C'mon. Can't we at least hope that the wee goes out of his willie!
Man! is there anything this guy will not do for "free press"?
I tell ya' Clinton's a political genius! what a better way to distract from J-Fink's campaign (For Hilary's sake) than this?!
In spite of it all, I wish him the best and a prayer for a speedy recovery.
Prayers for President Clinton and his family....
You can beat this one too.
NOPE! Fox just reported that he admitted himself because of chest pain one day ago! And the surgery was not scheduled until later this next week! Sorry folks, but I sense a THEATRICAL stunt! I hope I'm wrong though!
Quadruple surgery isnt that uncommon or risky as its been in the past. Wishes for a speedy recovery..
"All politics aside, I wish him the best."
Me too. I'm gonna send a thank you card for taking the spotlight off the Johns today too.
The REAL question - will he go to a hospital with socialized medicine and wait six months for an any doctor or will he find the best private hospital with the best doctors?
Best Wishes, Mr President.
Despite my disdain for Bill Clinton, no one should wish ill on anyone else.
Who was he with when he had the heart attack?
How old was she?
........and then go directly to jail for selling secrets to the Chinese, etc.
Will keep President Clinton in prayers, and hope for a speedy recovery.
Is Hillary going to visit him in the hospital for the photo op?
No, if this were a publicity stunt as you imply, the would have announced to the media yesterday.
I agree with you, both. Can you imagine the "martyred widow" card in the hands of She Who Must Not Be Named?
"I implore my fellow FReepers to exercise some modicum of good taste on this thread..."
The Heavenly Father's "WILL" will be done.
Amazing that this was kept quiet, not even on Drudge.
Isn't that "doctor shopping"? I thought that was illegal.
Fox, just reported that he had NOT suffered a HEART ATTACK, but a day ago he was experiencing chest pains! Surgery will not take place until probably next week....TALK ABOUT POLITICIAL THEATRICAL STUNTS...this guy is king!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Thanx.
Voted against him twice, STILL wish him the best and I pray for his quick recovery......
What would we all do without Bill Clinton to kick around?
A speedy recovery to the X-42!
Besides, he has to live in order to be indicted for all the cr@p he and Hill did while he was president.
Much as I dislike him. I don't wish him illness of this sort. I hope he recovers. But look at this thread and compare it to what the DUh's would be saying about President Bush. Therein lies the difference between conservatives and liberals.
Right, and after he recovers from surgery he can sue McDonald's...maybe he can hire John Edwards to handle the case.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Planned or not, this will eat into Kerry's face time.
I'll wish him well...as long as he doesn't blame his chest pains on Zell Miller.
Well, I think the guy is total putz as President, but I don't wish ill on anyone. Get well, Mr. Clinton.
I actually have great respect for the Clinton's for keeping this quiet yesterday during the GOP Convention.
hope he lives to see another day.
Call me cynical, but I don't believe it.
What is his angle???
I believe there were testimonies by several of his former lovers that it was bent to the left, but I don't believe the angle was stipulated. ;o)
"I actually have great respect for the Clinton's for keeping this quiet yesterday during the GOP Convention."
I do not know enough yet to make that statement.
The thing I learned about the Clintons, nothing was ever the way it was presented.
I was just talking to some friends earlier this week about what the Clinton's would overshadow J-Fink at the end of the GOP convention. Now I know!.....
Love and compassion for enemies is the hallmark of a true Christian.
Yeah. I mean the man is a scoudrel, a BUM, and a scourge on all that's American. But I still wish him well. He can't get his heart right, and he can't get right with God, if he's dead. Then it's too late.
Well, Bill, I've got good news and bad news.
First, the bad news. Your fast food days are over.
Now the good news. You can still have your favorite snack (or at least the one that Gennifer Flowers says you ate like a champ). As far as I can tell, that's heart-healthy.
Get well soon, Bubba.
Everyone should say a prayer for the man, he is a former Pres.
On a lighter note: He probably developed the heart ailment over Pataki's comments on how his administration didn't do anything to prevent 9/11.
Anyway, here is my take on a conversation that may have happened or may occur because the leadership at the DNC is very sick:
KERRY: Hey Terry, I just heard a report Bill Clinton had a heart attack...
MCAULIFFE:Oh, No, really?
KERRY: Yea, I hope he pulls through...
MCAULIFFE: Yea, it would be a shame if he didn't...
KERRY: You seem pretty broken up about it. You must really feel for him.
MCAULIFFE: No, it's way to far off from the election to get any sympathy votes, so he has to hold on until late October. Then we'll blame the GOP for causing it.
While we are winning one for the GIPPER by beating the FLIPPER, we sure do not need to add the GROPER into this mix!!!
I'm amazed his physicians did not spot this advanced blockage long ago.
Most people with heavy bucks are quite careful and aware of problems and have scheduled detailed checkups.
Bad habits and ignoring time and years can get you, using your noggin and horsesense and financial resources will usually help you have good healthy years and lifestyles beyond that of the average person.
Bipasses may reduce pain but are no guarantee your life will not be shortened.
Diet, exercise, chest, arm, and leg pains are not things to ignore or just take a painkiller or drink to cover up.
Never hated Slick Willie, just wanted him to move to Cuba or Ireland or China and disappear.
Hating is a lib thing anyway.
It eats them up.
