Russian School Siege Prompts Horrified Self-Criticism in Arab Media
Associated Press ^ | Sep 4, 2004 | Maggie Michael

Posted on 09/04/2004 3:15:06 AM PDT by Pharmboy

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Muslims worldwide are the main perpetrators of terrorism, a humiliating and painful truth that must be acknowledged, a prominent Arab writer and television executive wrote Saturday, as Middle East media and officials expressed horror at the bloody rebel siege of a Russian school. Unusually forthright self-criticism followed the end of the hostage crisis, along with warnings that such actions inflict more damage to the image of Islam than all its enemies could hope. Arab leaders and Muslim clerics denounced the school seizure as unjustifiable and expressed their sympathy.

Russian commandos stormed the school Friday in Beslan, Russia; it had been taken over by rebels demanding independence for Chechnya. Russian officials said Saturday that the death toll was at least 250, with twice as many wounded. Many of the casualties were children.

Images of terrified young survivors being carried from the scene aired repeatedly on Arab TV stations. Pictures of dead and wounded children ran on front pages of Arab newspapers Saturday.

"Holy warriors" from the Middle East long have supported fellow Muslims fighting in Chechnya, and Russian officials said nine or 10 Arabs were among militants killed.

"Our terrorist sons are an end-product of our corrupted culture," Abdulrahman al-Rashed, general manager of Al-Arabiya television wrote in his daily column published in the pan-Arab Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper. It ran under the headline, "The Painful Truth: All the World Terrorists are Muslims!"

Al-Rashed ran through a list of recent attacks by Islamic extremist groups - in Russia, Iraq, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen - many of which are influenced by the ideology of Osama Bin Laden, the Saudi-born leader of the al-Qaida terror network.

"Most perpetrators of suicide operations in buses, schools and residential buildings around thg world for the past 10 years have been Muslims," he wrote. Muslims will be unable to cleanse their image unless "we admit the scandalous facts," rather than offer condemnations or justifications.

"The picture is humiliating, painful and harsh for all of us," al-Rashed wrote.

Contributors to Islamic Web sites known for their extremist content had mixed reactions on the hostage crisis, with some praising the separatists. Others wrote that people should wait until the militants had been identified before implicating Arabs in the drama.

Ahmed Bahgat, an Egyptian Islamist, wrote in his column in Egypt's leading pro-government newspaper, Al-Ahram, that hostage-takers in Russia as well as in Iraq are only harming Islam.

"If all the enemies of Islam united together and decided to harm it ... they wouldn't have ruined and harmed its image as much as the sons of Islam have done by their stupidity, miscalculations, and misunderstanding of the nature of this age," Bahgat wrote. ' The horrifying images of the dead and wounded Russian students "showed Muslims as monsters who are fed by the blood of children and the pain of their families."

An editorial in the Saudi English-language Arab News put some blame for the bloody end to the school siege on Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying he couldn't afford to lose his "tough-man image." But it added that "the Chechens, with the choice of their targets, had put themselves in a position where no one would shed tears when the punishment came. They reached a new low when they chose toddlers as bargaining chips."

Heads of state from Egypt, Lebanon and Kuwait offered their sympathy Friday to Russian officials and to the families of people caught up in the hostage drama. A prominent Muslim cleric also denounced it.

"What is the guilt of those children? Why should they be responsible for your conflict with the government?" Egypt's top Muslim cleric, Grand Sheik Mohammed Sayed Tantawi, was quoted as saying during a Friday sermon in Banha, 30 miles north of Cairo.

"You are taking Islam as a cover and it is a deceptive cover; those who carry out the kidnappings are criminals, not Muslims," Tantawi, who heads Al-Azhar University, the highest authority in the Sunni Islamic world, was quoted by Egypt's Middle East News agency as saying.

None of which distressed Muktar Al-Sadr and his band of thugs from demanding the French eliminate rules against Moslem girls wearing scarves in school.

Actually, more of the Moslem world was much more focused on those scarves than on the fact Moslem terrorists were shooting young children in the back.

What they said! Have they gone a bridge too far this time? We shall see.

The murderousness of their women is disturbing, how deranged are the Chechens? Who can still support their "cause"?

actually a whole host of them are shaking in their boots, because they know that "IVAN" ain't tolerant like the USA.

the muzzies will be lucky if "IVAN" doesn't fry their rock in Mecca, along with several state sponsors from which the terrorists hailed.

I am pretty sure Russia does NOT need a green light from Washington. BUT I am equally confident, that they already had it, by the time the crap hit the fan.

Do what must be done Vlad.
Islam bit the wrong bear.

Muslims as monsters who are fed by the blood of children and the pain of their families

well at least they got that part right.
but the admission that they ARE MONSTERS is what we are looking for. not that what they DO alone makes them APPEAR in a bad light.

THEY ARE A BAD LIGHT. A light of pure evil.
and they don't like it being projected in every place they live, breathe and exist.

They fear retribution.
Too late, it would appear.

He spoke out about the beheading video's and has asked AL J to stop showing them. He promised to stop airing them if AL J would. But I believe he still shows them since AL J has not stopped.

I also think that most of the American loving Iraqi's in Iraq prefer to watch this guys news station than AL J's as they do to the more fair reporting.

I think they are trying to be the FOX News of Iraqi TV

The tag line is from Zell's speech.

It is now long past time for the world, and that means the world's governments to finally face facts.

The blame for what just happened in Russia, and for all the preceeding horrors of the WTC (both attacks), Nairobi, Khobar Towers, the Cole, Bali, and on, must be laid squarely at the feet of the Arabic states and the Muslim preachers of hate that inhabit them. The reluctance in these lands to silence these slimy purveyors of hate has been obvious for too long.

It has now become incumbent on us all civilized peoples to demand that these Mullahs, Imams, Shiekhs, and other assorted "nutbags of esteem" in their benighted lands are quieted forever.

It is now time for Muslims worldwide to understand that the desire of the West to see Islam survive cannot be greater than their own. If the death-wish now so manifest in the Islamic world is not curbed BY the Islamic world, then it certainly will not be incumbent on us, their victims, to insure a sweet outcome on their behalf. Many of us, like me, would rather help them on their way.

It is time to bring the hammer down, people, and in so doing make Muslims everywhere fear us more than they fear the sociopathic death worshippers in their midst. Maybe then they will act.

It would be preferable that they act first of their own volition out of a sense of morality or even out of a desire to survive, but I fear that they secretly love and admire these murderers of children, and pray for their souls and for their success.

If so, they are as craven as the murderers themselves.

Perhaps they think that in the coming war, they will prevail. They are wrong. When this war comes, we will not be able to wage war with the delicacy that we have shown in Iraq. It is up to the Musmlims now, whether they wish to live as civilized human beings, or die as pigs.

Know that Tantawi is not a good guy, though, folks. He does want our soldiers in Iraq and our defense effort to get hurt. He is part of the worldwide Jihad.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1207127/posts
The Muslim Brotherhood Movement in Support of Fighting Americans Forces in Iraq

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Muhammad Sayyed Tantawi, in an interview with the UAE daily Al-Khaleej, also expressed support for the resistance in Iraq, but qualified it with opposition to attacks on innocent civilians: "No right-thinking individual would dispute that the resistance to occupation is a right which is firmly grounded in all of the divine laws, religious rules and customs. According to Islam, this is not only a right but an obligation. However, we emphasize both to the Muslims and to the non-Muslims that the killing of innocents and the frightening of peaceful people is not Jihad but rather terrorism, and Islam condemns it... Jihad is [the fight] against the criminal aggressors and not against innocents slain because of arbitrary operations here and there..."(5)

I guess it's finally getting through their thick heads that slaughtering children is bad PR. Their sick vermin in Russia planned this for a long time, getting hired to work on the school renovation so they could hide their explosives under the floor of the school. That's how cunning these bastards are. If you don't think they are planning another attack on us maybe next year or two years from now, think again. We ought to have a plan in place NOW as to what we will do when it comes...and I hope it isn't just taking guns away from the rest of us to "keep the peace." The Russian soldiers were very thankful that the men of Beslan were fighting alongside them, bringing their own guns to lay down covering fire for the fleeing children. Be wary and aware.
