Thanks for the link.
This article was a perfect summary of everything wrong with Kerry. And all in one place!!!
John Kerry is a cipher. When he finally leaves the Senate, he will leave no mark that he was ever there. It seemed he used his title and position for his own self-aggrandizement but little else for nearly twenty years. Amazing that ANYONE in the Democratic party could think he was Presidential material.
My line: It's the candidate, stupid!
PING
Ouch! That must have left a mark. Just goes to show that what goes around comes around.
The big difference here is that for all Bill Clinton's faults, he was likeable. As much as I detest his presidency and all his other shenanigans, if I met him in a bar, I'd probably have a drink with him and trade a few stories. But Kerry is so unlikeable that if I saw him walking into a bar, I'd sneak out the back door.
Don't count on it. When Dukakis was defeated, Massachusetts elected a Republican governor. And the corner office has been held by the GOP ever since.
Oh wow! This is powerful! And the best re-cap I've seen of John Kerry's self-inflicted, political deterioration.
Thank you. Most Americans are so ignorant of the political process that they think they are voting for a specific presidential candidate. In fact, as you say, they are merely voting for an elector that is currently pledged to that candidate. And that elector can always vote for somebody else entirely.
They may get a rude awakening in this presidential election cycle. FReepers are better educated than the average American, and quite a few FReepers misapprehend "the way it works." The public would become seriously unsettled by a "weird" election.

One small correction, Cleland is not a war hero.
He blew himself up with a hand granade.
Someone in his unit was seriously injured, I think by a landmine, in an intense fire fight. He carried the guy out on his shoulders through enemy fire and won a medal for that.
That's not how he lost his legs and arm, but he definitely earned his medal(s) and most folks would call his earlier actions heroic. Of course, he doesn't tell people much about how he earned his medal(s) and, for obvious reasons, he doesn't dwell on the accident that caused his injuries. He shouldn't let people say things like "the Viet Cong took his legs," and similar misrepresentations I've heard about his injuries, but don't question his heroism under fire.
I purchased the video, "THE HANOI HILTON" at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. It was on sale for $5.99. I recall seeing the movie on television many years ago. I had a chance to watch the movie yesterday and now the movie, more than ever is relevant to the anti-war activities of John Kerry during the Vietnam War. Especially how the POW's were tortured many times due to the actions of John Kerry, Jane Fonda and their friends in the media.
If you have an opportunity to view it I recommend highly that you see this movie. It is a glimpse of what the POW's went through while held prisoner by the Communist North Vietnamese.
The video is available from Amazon and other online video stores.
From website: "Shot in the Dark" http://www.shotinthedark.info/
"In 1987, Lionel Chetwynd's excellent Hanoi Hilton received widely-mixed reviews (many of them politically-motivated). Worse, its distributor essentially sat on the movie, under pressure from Hollywood leftists, for its treatment of Jane Fonda. The movie depicted life at North Vietnam's Hoa Lo prison accurately - but it changed the last names of the prisoners, and of their visitors, including Jane Fonda. An actress who represents Fonda ("Paula") does everything Fonda is said to have done while in the Hilton. That was one of several stories that Hollywood didn't want told (that and, of course, the moral of the story; the men survived because of their military training and warrior ethic). "Hanoi Hilton" was buried, received a tiny theatrical release, and is hard to find on video today. (Do it if you can - it's an excellent movie)."
I really hope you are right, but don't forget to get out the vote and make it so!
