We had a very successful rally last night. The weather was not too warm and we had a large enthusiastic group. Doctor Raoul sent a karaoke machine so Amy's niece Marissa used the mike to lead us in chants of USA, USA and Four More Years. We played patriotic and country music throughout the evening. As usual, the motorist response was overwhelming. For the most part, they are happy to see us out there.

In addition there were several people who joined us from a Jewish Republican Group and a couple of families who heard us on local radio last month.
A very special surprise was a visit from a soldier who is home from Iraq for two weeks. He is getting married Tuesday and was accompanied by his finance and her son. He thanked us for all the support. He wanted to let us know how much our support, packages and letters means to the personnel serving in Iraq.
After the rally, we met at Lyons for dinner and an informal chapter meeting. Setting up a chapter web page, the picnic and the inauguration were the topics discussed.

And as you can see that there isn't a single American flag among the peace crowd. They are so un-American it makes me sick.
I love that they "clock out" at 6:30 sharp every time. We need to find out who has them on their payroll and why.

Friday was the first Friday of the month, so the peacenics were out in force on our corner. As we have been doing, we were there to counter their protests with our Support the Troops Rally.
We are having our annual picnic on the 11th so we will be out showing our support again on the 10th. If any of you will be able to attend the picnic, we would love to have you join us.
I have a few more pictures from Friday night; hope you enjoy them.

MamaBear and I are planning to attend the Inauguration. I wonder how many would be willing to buy tickets if we had an Inauguration Ball II?
Ya think we should start tossing the question to see how much interest we receive?
We had fun Friday night. Lots of positive feedback from the motorists.

Regarding: Inauguration festivities.
As someone who lives less than twenty miles from BWI, I volunteer my beat-up old minivan to fetch you folks from BWI to (my recommendation) extended stay facilities near the airport.
The advantage of that -- they have kitchens, among other amenities, and very near the airport. One could then easily travel down to the inauguration (about thirty miles, estimated.)
How long would you be in town?

I would like to stay long enough to see some of the sights .... MamaBear .. what are your thoughts.
How long would you stay, AG?
NnB .... would there be a MetroLine close so we could get around? It has been about 8 years since I have been to DC. We stayed in Alexandria .... MamaBear and Jkphoto stayed at the Capital Holiday Inn when they were there.
Do you think we should make room reservations now? We could always cancel if the unimaginable happens.

I live in NY, will drive down. Last Inauguration, we stayed in a hotel in Alexandria, conveniently located near a metro station that brought us into D.C.

Perhaps the best way would be to travel by car down to New Carrollton Metro, thence to Washington.
Keep in mind, there will be crowds. By starting from a greater distance, you should be more certain of accommodations and can be more flexible in your planning.

Besides which, it wasn't misspelled.
Sometimes, even my fingers type out the wrong word. I was surprised to see how often my fingers typed out a there instead of their, even though I sent the proper instructions.
At least, I think I sent the proper instructions. The paper trail doesn't include that information.

Wouldn't the metro be our best bet for getting around?

At the last Inauguration a bunch of us stayed in one hotel right by a Metro Station, I think in Arlington.
A cab from the outlying airport costs about $40.
I think if we try to get a block of rooms it is less expensive.
In 2001, I was late in booking and did not get into the Freeper Hotel. But when Gore and his friend Chad stopped hanging around and didn't steal the election, Democrats canceled their rooms en mass. LOL I wonder why?
Anyway by calling the hotel on MY WAY to DC at layovers I eventually got a room there.
Something to think about.

The extended stay facility was just the first thing I thought of in regard to FReepers being able to get together.
It seemed like a kitchen would be a good idea. That being the case, many hotels have kitchenette style rooms which would suffice, I'm sure.
So if public transportation is the first order selector, any place along the metro corridor would probably serve. (I will do some research.) Keep in mind, my offer to transport folks from BWI also extends to providing escort to other destinations as well. I expect to make a nuisance of myself.
I like a selection that puts everyone on this side of the Potomac, and the facility I mentioned has only the Anacostia river to get across to get into Washington.
I don't know if you took advantage of it, Lori, but the Holiday Inn you stayed at had internet access set up in the lobby (two stations). Something else to consider.
