"Kerry continued the assault Friday at a rally in Newark, Ohio, slamming Cheney for avoiding military service during Vietnam.
He told the crowd, "I'll let you and the American people decide whether five deferments makes you more 'unfit' than two tours of duty."

John Edwards COULD have served during Vietnam BUT didn't.

Instead he went to college from '70-'74

"...A proud product of public schools, John became the first person in his family to attend college. He worked his way through North Carolina State University where he graduated with high honors in 1974, and then earned a law degree with honors in 1977 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. .."

"Any word on how Edwards' college scholorship fell through??"

Edwards played high-school football and went on to become the first person in his family to go to college.
He enrolled at Clemson University but dropped out in his first year, after a football scholarship fell through (to slow as a player) and he didn't have the money to continue. The next year he started at North Carolina State, graduating in 1974. That was quickly followed by a law degree from the University of North Carolina in 1977 and marriage to feloow lawyer Elizabeth Anania.

It wouldn't help at all.

We need to let him sink on Nov 2

Agree?

That toast is in a jam...or that jam is toasted

Or something like that. Either way, that is a great graphic!

From what I've understood, Edwards' father wasn't blue-collar in that mill. He sure seems to want to portray him in that light.

Any lie for mileage.

Edwards DOB: 10 Jun 53

http://www.sss.gov/lotter4.htm

RESULTS FROM LOTTERY FOR MEN FACING THE DRAFT IN 1973
The lottery drawing held February 2, 1972, determined the order in which men born in 1953 were called to report for induction into the military.

This lottery was conducted for men who would have been called in 1973; however, no new draft orders were issued after 1972.

Hey, lets not get carried away. I was drafted and went to Vietnam in 1970. Personally, I am grateful Edwards had a deferment.

In all reality, Edwards, who he is, what he has done and what he may do, is so meaningless in this election cycle at this point, that to even talk about him, as if he matters, is a waste of time and thought.

See what I mean?

I just wasted 10 minutes for nothing! ;)

What was Edwards' draft status in 1970? Did he get deferments to go to college? Inquiring minds want to know.

"... slamming Cheney for avoiding military service during Vietnam. He told the crowd, "I'll let you and the American people decide whether five deferments makes you more 'unfit' than two tours of duty."

Only 4 of those 5 deferments was before our main Vietnam involvement. Cheney's last deferment was while he was married and had a child, while finishing his degree.

Kerry got less than stellar reviews - superiors didn't like his arrogant attitude - one guy (can't remember his name) refused to work with Kerry - saying he was incompetent

From Unfit for Command, page 41:

When Kerry and Tedd Peck were transferred from Cam Ranh Bay to An Thoi, Peck told Kerry: "Kerry, follow me no closer than a thousand yards. If you get any closer, I'll teach you what a real Purple Heart is."

There was also another officer who wanted Kerry out of their division but I'm not sure which one that was.
