JOHN KERRY COMES TO STEUBENVILLE
I doubt he stopped for souvenirs. A friend writes --
"John Kerry came to Fort Steuben (on 3rd Street) in Steubenville Ohio today to campaign for president. Just under HALF the crowd were protestors (I can get digital photographic evidence in a few days for you if you need). It occurred from 4p.m. until about 7:30p.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 4th. Priests, nuns, American Life League, students, profs, staff, and good Catholics (including some steel workers) all came to protest and boo. The AP is falsely reporting (in the story, "Kerry Rips Bush Over Record Medicare Hike"), "Several dozen Bush supporters greeted Kerry in Steubenville with signs favoring a second Bush term and opposing the Catholic Kerry's support for abortion rights." There were several HUNDRED as Carl Cameron of FOX news stated on live TV! Now that's news. I emailed Drudge about this - not that it's terribly news worthy. Though Kerry and some of his staff were visibly shaken!
He goes on to describe --
Y'all should have been there - it was truly AMAZING!!! There were at least 500 of us (almost half the crowd). Our city councilman at large is a republican and he secured w/ the local police our protection and they all allowed us to take in our protest signs (sans sticks) INTO the VENUE ITSELF!!!
There were many good signs: I used "Pontius Pilate was also personally opposed" , but Laura's was most effective: a bright florescent hot pink sign saying "Kerry" with a slash through it. She worked her way to the front of the crowd and stood on a chair holding it high. She clearly saw Kerry look at the only hot pink sign in the entire crowd several times and get slightly flustered. Other signs: "Kerry is bad for steel" (he's in the pocket of the enviros - that really pisses off the steel community here), "Unfit for command" (thanks for the ideas, guys!), "Steubenville for Bush!", "Taxpayers for Bush", etc.
At one point, Kerry said "To all you Republicans in the crowd..." I couldn't hear the rest over the deafening boooos!
You should have seen the media and Kerry's campaign when they arrived - he must have had no idea what hit him: we were all lined up along the fence (a whole city block) and there were ONLY pro-Bush, anti-Kerry, pro-life signs along the entire fence. Several of his staff gave us very nasty looks - they couldn't believe that someone (the police! - most of whom are Republicans here) let us in the venue with those protest signs. (BTW, he tried to come last month and the Kerry camp was turned down by the head of the local firemen's union - another republican).
Perhaps the highlight of the night was this: John Glenn introduced Kerry. During his introduction, at a moment when the entire crowd was silent and during a pause in his intro, Regis Martin (a fellow prof here) yelled at the top of his voice to the great consternation of the Democrats: "Go back to the Moooon!" You've really got to know Regis - he sure is something.
Kerry was shocked and upset. A job well done.
More AP lies.
Pictures would be most appreciated.
I love seeing Kerry squirm. I will be thrilled when he loses!
back to the moon bump
Congrats and God Bless Steubenville!!!!! ... keep up the good work.
thanks for fighting the good fight. yes, we would like to see the pictures.
what can we do about AP and their bullshucks reporting?
Oh, thank you, Diago. It's so good to know that the real, PATRIOTIC, democracy-loving, God-loving Americans are speaking up.
If 500 protestors was about half the crowd, then Kerry drew less than 1000 supporters. W is getting 20,000 supporters just about everywhere I'm aware of. Here is Francis (not France) country of Panama City, FL, there were 20,000 of us and not a protestor in sight, though I heard less than a half dozen were here somewhere. Jane Fonda no longer watches CNN cause she's too busy helping the rest of the 'rats with Kerry campout on the Mall.
WAY TO GO STEUBENVILLE!!!!!!!!
BTTT!!
sounds awesome.
PING! Have your daughter read this one!
Pro-life bump
Remember in '92 they roasted Perot over saying "you people" and that went on for days on end? I don't see this sentence as being any different...in fact it is more patronizing and yet AP gives him a free pass.
Good report! Thanks!
I sure wish we could make that kind of showing all over the country!
I think the increasing protests at Kerry events is significant!
IMO, Mainstream voters (regardless of party affiliation)just don't protest very much due to jobs, families and general apathy. If these reports that Kerry is really beginning to get hammered by protestors are true, it's curtains for Kerry.
The GOP is really good about screening crowds for W's events, but if the Convention is any indicator, I would think W's events would be just as heavily protested. Apparently, Thank God, that's not the case.
Perhaps the friendly local pols and policemen are the main reason for so much sKerry freeping success in STEUBENVILLE.
I am so glad that you posted this. When I first heard a few days ago that Kerry was going to Steubenville I couldn't believe my eyes! I thought, "What could he possibly be thinking?" I have not known that much about Steubenville except as an observer from afar. What I have seen has been very conservative. For me the names that I associate with Steubenville are Scott Hahn and Brian Muha. Both extremely conservative, and so my impression will always be that way. Your post reinforced that image for me.
Rasmussen (pollster), said Kerry had an awesome day in Steubenville. Out of his everloving mind. A few more days like this and MamaT. won't have to call the undertaker.
We always referred to it as "Stupidville." That was uncharitable, I'll admit. But now, with John Kerry there, we have finally been proven accurate!
The Dem voter base is not motivated, they're not excited about Kerry, they just don't like W.
Is there a site where his upcoming visits throughout the country can be anounced ahead of time so we can plan freeps of the creeps.
Way to go!
ROTFL! Great report, outstanding show of citizens.
What a fantastic FReep! One of the best ever!
Sock it to him, Stubie!
I love it....love it...love it...
My daughter would probably know most of the students and faculty and priests who protested Kerry...LOL
Thanks for sharing.
KERRY HITS THE WRONG OHIO TOWN (great read)

ping this one
BTTT!
If 500 = 1/2 than 2 times 500 = 1000, if 1/2 were pro Bush than 1/2 (500) were Kerry supporters. So Kerry drew 500 supporters.
I know its late, but I don't want him to get one more supporter than he has....lol
Oops. NBC video is not from OH, but earlier well-freeped rally in PA. Great work ... and ... great report.
I spent Saturday at a wild and wonderful Bush rally in Erie, Pa. TV and papers put the crowd at 22,000, easy to believe as all stadium seats were filled and thousands stood on the football field in front of the stage. I'm glad my former home town gave Pres. Bush an enthusiastic reception. An enviro rally two miles away drew 100 or so Kerry fans, some of whom tried unsuccessfully to slither up to the Bush rally. I didn't see any personally. The Erie Police Department was outstanding! The crowd was PUMPED, and Erie is a democrat town. I drove 200 miles to the rally, and met many others who did the same.
(If you would like to be added to my Catholic Ping List, please send a Freepmail.)
Thanks for the ping and good to see you out and about Barnacle.
I tried to make it to the Panama City speech -- had tickets and everything. But they stopped traffic going in about 10 cars ahead of us. So, we had to stand on the side of the road and wave when he came by in the bus. We ran into a lot of rain driving down and that slowed us up considerably.
And they are beginning to think, "What the ---- am I gonna be doin' the next 4 yrs...defending this prick?
Been there, Done that...hehe.
Great job! Something tells me that whoever scheduled this appearance in Steubenville is going to be in trouble...

STEUBENVILLE, September 7, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A group of Catholic protesters gave John Kerry an unexpectedly cool welcome in that working class, traditionally Democrat town. Students, children, workingmen, housewives and nuns in full habits arrived in the rain at the park where Kerry planned to speak hours before his arrival. Carrying signs that read, "Crusade for the Defense of Our Catholic Church," "You Can't be Catholic and Pro-Abortion," and "Pontius Pilate was Also Personally Opposed."
Clutching Rosaries, a crowd that the Sheriff's department estimated as large as 500, marched and silently protested the presidential candidate's anti-life stand on abortion. Kerry who claims to be a devout Catholic, was visibly shaken when his speech was booed in this town that campaign organizers had expected to be enthusiastically supportive.
Steubenville is a union-based town that has been hit hard by tough times and is normally a bastion of Democrat support. However, Kerry campaign organizers did not know about the impact on the local community of Catholics organized around Franciscan University. Local churches and Catholics from throughout the Diocese of Steubenville took part in the march they said was meant for reverence, prayer, sacrifice and to challenge Kerry to stand up for life. "We prayed all four mysteries of the rosary," Emily Bissonnette, a junior at the university, said. "We also have people praying back at school."
The Kerry team tried several times to have the protesters barred from the park. The local constabulary was less than co-operative however citing freedom of speech and assembly and the fact that the rally, and therefore the protest, were being held in a public park. "They don't look dangerous to me," the Sheriff said.
One person present said that a little girl started chanting "we want Bush" in the midst of Kerry's speech. "We all chanted along. The campaign staff was beside themselves." The local councilman at large, Michael Hernon passed out Bush-Cheney signs to those waiting in line. "If you look at the record, Kerry is not good for this area," he said. "He is not in sync with steel. This is the largest counter-rally protest during a Kerry rally in the nation."
Catholic Ping - let me know if you want on/off this list
That shows how out of touch the Kerry campaign organizers are with the rest of the country and how out of touch Kerry is with normal Catholics.
"Pontius Pilate was Also Personally Opposed."
Great line.
Go STEUBIE U!!!!
The ususal left leaning catholic paper National Catholic Reporter has a great article posted on their web page about this event.
