I do believe that CNN and others are exploiting it, simply because it's a nice, round number. 999 deaths or 1001 deaths are no more signficant or insignificant than 1000 deaths. 1000 happens to make for a nice 30 second soundbite or a three minute lead-in story.
I was talking about some that think we shouldn't know how many have died or been wounded. It reminded me of my belief that if there was a liberal in the WH right now, we wouldn't know exactly how many had died or been wounded. That shows that for all their faults, President Bush's administration can be very blunt and very honest when it comes to telling us just how serious Iraq is.
Kerry's "Goat-song" calls 1000 deaths "Tragic"
Tragedy is a form of drama which can be traced as far back as the Greek theatre. The Greek tragedies were originally written and produced for theatrical competitions, and the winning team in the tragic competition would receive a goat to feast on. The word "tragedy" is thus derived from the Greek language word "tragodiai," meaning "goat-songs". Greek tragedy rose out of religious rites and dramatic enactment of tales of the gods in the early Greek religion and mythology. Aristotle theorized that catharsis (emotional cleansing) results from viewing a tragedy and explains why humans enjoy seeing dramatized pain.

HEY GUYS AND GALS YOU GOT TO GET THIS STORY RIGHT.
WE PASSED THE 1000 DEAD IN THIS WAR THREE YEARS AGO THIS COMING SATURDAY.
This is part of the Information war being waged everyday by those in the Mideast and elsewhere who want to force us to change policies such as the support we give to Israel. That said, it is a measure of our determination that we look at this loss as a price that we are paying to take the fight to those who would harm us. How many soldiers or Marines dying defending freedom in Iraq will you trade for a child tortured and killed in Los Angeles? It is a measure of our determination because our enemies are making it a measure... They know that these deaths will be treated as sensational news by the American press, especially the press that is politically in favor of Kerry and/or opposed to Bush. They also know that the Clinton administration "bugged out" in Somalia after only 20 or so casualties citing the cause there as a "mistake" by the Bush41 Administration. Somehow I think that they know that they will get a similar response next year if there is a Kerry administration in office. They are probably right given that Kerry has now sold his soul to Bill Clinton.
