Let the Infighting Begin! Jesse Jackson Rips "not smart" Kerry Campaign
CNN - Inside Politics

Posted on 09/07/2004 1:42:45 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

In another sure sign of a campaign in disarray an desperate trouble, the Reverend Jesse Jackson has added his well-modulated baritone to the chorus of second-guessing and recriminations.

In a just-completed interview with Judy Woodruff of CNN's Inside Politics, Jackson took the bark off the Kerry campaign. He accused it of failing to reach out to its base, specifically claiming that the Kerry people had failed to reach out to blacks. Donna Brazile had been on earlier to discuss the issue, and it seems clear the Reverend is angry that he has not been given a more prominent role in the campaign.

Adding insult to injury, not only did Jackson call the Kerry campaign "not smart," he went out of his way to praise Karl Rove and the Bush campaign. He said that the Bush campaign is smart to begin by solidifying its base and then reaching out to other groups, whereas the Kerry campaign is ignoring his base.

Jackson was also furious that Kerry had refused to participate in some kind of Appalachian events that Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH had organized. Jesse's been dissed, and he's ticked.

He then complained about the lack of hard-left speakers at the DNC. Among those he cited who should have been given a prominent perch? None other than . . . Maxine Waters!

Finally, employing one of his trademark flights of English, Jackson criticized the recent reshuffling of the Kerry campaign. He said: "a shakeup shouldn't be a vanilla shake," apparently displeased that more blacks and other minority groups weren't brought into the lily white Kerry inner circle.

Yes, the Democrat wailing and gnashing of teeth, the backbiting, finger pointing, blame shifting, recriminations, accusations, excuse-making and backstabbing is a wonder to behold!

Let the games begin!

Where's my extra-butter popcorn? I want to sit back and watch as this campaign implodes. It's simply priceless.

If he wasn't such a vile, scheming poverty pimp I'd be able to enjoy his amusing rhetoric even more.

Jesse has no right to criticize Kerry because he didn't serve on Kerry's boat.

Doesn't he realize that, to people like the Heinz-Kerry's, blacks are just servants and railway porters?

Oh, lordy.

Kerry would wet himself if he had to appear anywhere with Maxine Waters. I agree with what Jesse said (waiting for lightning to strike me as I sit here), especially since the Republicans very graciously showed how diverse their party has become during the convention while the Dems continued playing Kumbaya and pretending they've all turned into moderates.

If Jesse's making snide remarks, Kerry had better rearrange the deck chairs again.

Whenever you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one.

Jesse--- The thing that was "not smaart" was nominating Kerry. In other words, YOUR mistake and the mistake of the Democratic rank and file.

is Jesse becoming a Republican?

As they say in the Hertz TV commercial, "not exactly." It's not that he has anything good to say about W or the Republican platform. He just expresses admiration for W's campaign tactics.

If anything, Jackson's criticism is that Kerry isn't 'left' enough, and hasn't reached out to his progressive base.

This is just JJ putting the screws to Kerry . . . the Kerry camp will have to toss Jesse some goodies and they'll kiss and make up . . . it's a demonstration of Kerry's weakness, and Jesse can smell that from a mile away . . . moving in for a little action . . .

Kerry can make up for dissing all of the black leaders by inviting them for a sailboarding weekend at Nantucket.
