Sudan: U.S. to smash us like Iraq
Tuesday, September 7, 2004 Posted: 6:59 AM EDT (1059 GMT)

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Reuters) -- Washington's threat of sanctions against Sudan over the Darfur crisis is part of a U.S. conspiracy aimed at destroying the government in Khartoum as it did in Iraq and Somalia, a senior Sudanese official said.

"Sudan is not afraid of the threat of sanctions by the United States, which is using the crisis in Darfur to weaken and destroy the government of Sudan in a similar fashion in which they devastated Iraq and Somalia," said Angelo Beda, Deputy Speaker of Sudan's parliament.

Beda, speaking at a news conference in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa late on Monday, was referring to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and U.S. support of a Somalia peace operation that ended in humiliation in 1993.

The U.N. Security Council gave Sudan 30 days to disarm and prosecute Arab Janjaweed militia accused of killing, raping and driving villagers from their land in an 18-month conflict or face unspecified sanctions. The deadline expired on August 30.

U.N. envoy Jan Pronk has called for more pressure to be put on Khartoum but with opinion split among Security Council members after the expiry of the deadline, the United Nations is not expected to take action soon.

"Sudan is not afraid of the threat of sanctions by the United States..."

Sounds like their beef should be with the U.N.

I was glad to here Rudy Giuliani mention the slaughter of Christians in the Sudan. That hasn't gotten much press.

I'm not for the US going into the Sudan but I do think we ought to arm the Christians there with Machine guns.

Sounds like Sudan is employing the Hugo Chavez defense.

When your country is going to hell, blame the U.S. and try to rally the unfaithful.

America has been there and done that. Good luck to Sudan waiting on the UN (Useless Nimrods) to do anything for you.

God bless our troops wherever they may be.

Yes, but get back in line behind Iran and Syria. Wait your turn.

These lowlife Muslirats deserve a good smashing for their murder of 2,000,000 Christians over the last two decades.

Human civilization had better wake up now and get as serious about its survival as the seventh-century savages are about our annihilation!

Exactly. The Muslims operate on multiple fronts at a time, because the world is too PC to take the war back to them. Let's start arming the determined opponents of Islamic aggression and see how long the Muslims can keep up multiple fronts.

The last I heard, Somalia never really had a government to devastate.

The only real winnable way to fight them is the Special Forces approach: train the people to fight for themselves, with us providing occasional help in smashing large concentrations of enemy

That is the correct prescription.

With a few Predators (aimed at the Sudanese leadership) thrown in for good measure.
