I know that's a strong headline, but imagine you're a person who only gets his or her news from the New York Times. For many people, that isn't much of a stretch.
You open up today's Times to the Page 3 feature on the Beslan horror. It doesn't mention that the terrorists were Muslims.
I know, I know. The sun rose today in the east, the sky is blue, roses are red, and the Times won't call terrorists Muslim. What else is new?
How about altering a quote specifically to remove any implication that the Beslan terrorists were Muslims?
The wire services reported, in a quote printed in thousands of newspapers, that the captured Beslan terrorist said, "By Allah, I did not shoot."
Today's Times piece quotes him as saying, "By God, I did not shoot"—a translation that no other news organization has used.
In other words, the Times wanted so badly to leave Islam out of its Beslan feature that it altered the terrorist's quote.
This is more than political correctness. This is the deliberate alteration of a news quote to create the false impression that a terrorist follows the Judao-Christian God and not Allah.
This is an outrage.
No kidding, because my accepted translation of Allah is Satan, the blood-sucking moon god.

Well...the AP invented whole facts in its "boo" coverage of Bush's campaign.
Tonight while channel surfing, I heard someone on CNN ask a guest if the media is in collusion with the terrorists because they refuse to call them "terrorists." The guest said it is because the news outlets are AFRAID to call them terrorists for fear of retaliation. Now that's a new twist. I couldn't believe what I was hearing!
The NYT has always been full of manure. If you have ever seen copies of the NYT in the early 1930's referring to Germany rearming as; "it being their right", then turn around and call Adolph every name in the book, except socialist, after Germany invades Russia in '42, than you'd know the "Fix Was In" at the NYT a long, long time ago.
I fail to see your point. Substituting "God" for "Allah"

"Collusion" is the exact word he used I believe. It was on CNN headline news around 6:00 or so. I am sure CNN people do lurk here but I am not one of them if that is what you are implying. I really was surprised to hear someone on CNN ask a question like that since most of us here on FR just assume the liberal media is in "collusion" with the terrorists, communists, etc.
The New York Times is still too busy covering the Abu Ghraib story...I guess 50+ front page stories wasn't enough. Savage just ran through a number of headlines from around the country (and world)...and some outlets actually refered to them as "activists"...with none of the ever mentioning the word, terrorists.

It is, indeed, an outrage. Nothing more than typical of this bullsh*t so-called newspaper.
The issue of whether the NYT translation is appropriate turns on whether the cowardly thug was pleading entirely in Arabic, in which case a full translation is appropriate, or was using the Arabic "the God" in what was otherwise spoken in Russian or Chechen. Only the Muslims (or those following their custom in reporting Muslim speech or writing) treat Allah as a proper name and leave it untranslated when passing into other languages. An Arabic speaking Christian will sing "Holy God. . ." when singing the Trisagion in English, never "Holy Allah. . .". A Muslim speaking English will speak of Allah in refering to his deity, regarding the Arabic name as part of the Koranic 'revelation'.
If he was pleading in Russian or Chechen, translating Allah from the Arabic along with the translation from Russian or Chechen is dishonest. If he was speaking entirely in Arabic, I have no problem with the translation.
Suggest they get the WSJ for balance? It *is* one of only two national newspapers: the other being USA Today. I think the WSJ is trying to be nationwide too.
WSJ editions are published in Europe and Asia.

I was at this rally and it was such an american moment that we cheered in support of prayers for President Clinton. Politics were put aside, we were all Americans. Then the AP spits out the lie.

Over the weekend, we wrote about the false Associated Press report on a rally for President Bush in West Allis, Wisconsin. The AP report, by AP correspondent Tom Hays, said that "Bush's audience of thousands in West Allis, Wis., booed. Bush did nothing to stop them." This was a lie; the audiotape of the rally discloses no booing whatsoever. The AP subsequently issued a corrected version of the article, which deleted all reference to the non-existent booing.
I emailed Mr. Hays over the weekend to ask for an explanation. This morning I sent Mr. Hays the following email:
Mr. Hays, I assume that you are back in your office after the holiday and will now be in a position to respond to my earlier email asking about your false report that Republicans booed President Clinton at a rally in West Allis, Wisconsin, and President Bush "did nothing to stop them." I have listened to the audio of the rally; there was no booing. I have been told by a number of people who were present at the rally that there was no booing. The Associated Press issued a corrected version of your story deleting the false claim that the crowd booed.
So, I want to know what you have to say for yourself. Were you actually at the West Allis rally? If not, from whom did you get the false information that the crowd booed? If you were at the rally, what was your basis for reporting that the crowd booed and President Bush did nothing to stop it? And what relationship, formal or informal, do you have with the Kerry campaign?
I look forward to hearing from you. We have a website that is read by 50,000 or more people, and we have commented on this incident at length. Those comments have been linked to by other websites with readerships totaling in the millions. If you have anything to say for yourself, I will happily print it. Otherwise, I will be forced to conclude, and will publish my conclusion, that this is a naked instance of press bias, and that you deliberately filed a false report for the purpose of aiding the Kerry campaign.
