MY VIEW OF PRESIDENT BUSH AND NATIONAL GUARD
President Bush may have avoided the Vietnam draft in the '60s, just as I did and others who volunteered after college and before graduate school, he did not see combat, like many active duty Aviators and Pilots who did not log combat missions, I did and hold no animosity toward those who did not, I suspect those persons that do probably never served in any branch of the military.
Many persons who tried to enlist in the National Guard were unable to because all quotas were being met, except, Air National Guard "pilot quotas," they were probably wide open for volunteers, as were all branches of military aviation. There were many reasons for this; eyesight, spatial orientation, physical, mental and educational requirements, 2 year dedicated training and 5 year active duty, to name a few.
It takes endurance, courage, confidence, commitment and demonstrated responsibility to earn one's Wings and the privilege to command an expensive aircraft, with devastating weapons, while completing dangerous missions, during war and peace, from land and sea, anytime and anywhere in the world.
Most vets who served in Vietnam and other military operations served at least one full tour of duty of at least one year or longer, even when shot_up, and none of us badmouthed our brothers-in-arms or joined organizations that aided-and-abetted the enemy. JOHN F KERRY DID!!!...rto
btw, George W Bush may have flaws, but JOHN F KERRY IS A FRAUD
