Well then, I retract my comment on post #1 ... LOL !!!
LOL
2:00 AM update should be out any time now.
The graphic linked will update automatically
God I wish I lived in Florida in a mobile home.
Now a cat 5 storm with 160 MPH sustained winds and a pressure of 925 mb.....Yikes!
Whoa, most unbelievable weather season in quite a while ...
dont trust anything that predicts where a storm will go over 6 whole days
I think it's just you - nobody would want it to hit Florida, that's like saying somebody would kill kids for political purposes ...
I'm praying this sucker will miss Florida, just to give them a break - and then I realize that Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, or Texas will end up taking a Cat 3 or higher storm. I don't want that, either.
Pray, and batten down your hatches, people...
True - anything over 48 hours needs to be taken with a grain of salt - but I wouldn't want to see this graphic on my front paper if I lived in Key West of Tampa tomorrow ...
I live just north of Tampa, I just found out friends of mine lost their roof Saturday in Charley. I mean, lost it. It blew off.
I am scared to death of this storm, I don't care how far out it is.
I get your point ...
Florida has had its share of weather this season - no doubt.
I think it gets mentioned by everyone so often because it sticks out at the entrance to the Gulf like a sore thumb. From the direction Ivan is approaching it would take some work for Florida to get a clean miss from this storm.
Certainly storm track prediction error at 120 hours out is large, but if were in Florida I would do what I could to prepare. Any prudent person on the gulf coast should keep an eye out too just in case.
This storm dropped 26 mb of pressure in less than 12 hours...thats impressive. It would be wonderful if Ivan dissipated before it got to the CONUS. IMO not likely absent divine intervention.
I'm not an expert, but I once stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. :)
I have relatives in Florida who might be making an unscheduled visit if things don't change.
God bless anyone in the path of this nasty critter.
[Do you suppose] "those 18 on whom the tower of Siloam fell and killed them were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?"
"I tell you no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
The ones who know Christ just don't have to worry about what happens to their soul after they get killed by a grapefruit traveling at 140 mph- the unrepentent ones do.
Note that Las Vegas doesn't have hurricanes. (Or much else.) It's remarkably safe from natural disasters. Does that mean the place is righteous? I don't think so, any more than I think that lower-income people living in trailers are more evil than other people because they tend to get smashed more often and more severely than wealthier people in cinderblock houses.
A hurricane is one of God's ways of redistributing heat and moisture. If we didn't have them we'd be in more trouble than we ever get from them. Florida would be a barren desert but for the hurricane, and the central and eastern US would also be drier and not so good for growing the crops and timber our country and the world needs were it not for spent hurricanes and tropical storms blowing themselves out in the Mississippi valley.
;-)
I live in Citrus Co. & we really got hit by Frances. 2 trees down here and many trees down in the neighborhood. I have the whole curb except the driveway with the tree debris. I really don't care about seeing another hurricane anytime soon but I guess we will know Sun. if its coming up the West Coast.
Thanks.
So when will Terri-Schinlder Schiavo be released to the care of loving people?
The boat docks at NAS JAX dissappeared last weekend, and many boats sunk. The deck at my club is just twenty pilings now. Many friends still have no electricity.
We just got the far edge!
Sounds pretty bad up there. I don't think Fl could handle a third hurricane. I guess Grenada has 90% of homes damaged with 12 deaths so far. Ivan is up to 160 mph. Only thing we can do is pray that Ivan fizzles.
BUMP
I'm in SE Texas near the Gulf. We are having very cool weather for this time of year. If the cold-front doesn't stall out, maybe it will push the thing back out into the Atlantic.
If it's a strong dry cold front, it could kill the storm.
Perhaps someone up there didn't like what Kitty Kelly was saying?
Good answer; agreed.
Well the current track takes it over Jamaica and to hit Florida it goes thru a thick part of Cuba...I'm sure that will cause some shearing of the storm!
It was dry and it is 60 this morning. The high was 84 yesterday--10 degrees below normal.
Was Frances bad in ATL for you? It was here in east-central GA. And that was as a depression/t.storm! I think I want my pine trees GONE!
As we sat in the dark Tues. a.m., I felt for the people sitting in the dark for days, without a roof or walls or house. I hope Ivan takes a hike across Mexico and out to the Pacific.
No one does..........
Hmmm... I guess it will jus' have to be a little green dis year, Mon!
Commentary of the kind you have been making on these hurricane threads is exactly what drives unsaved people away from accepting Christ.
Who would want to associate for eternity with someone of your ilk?
Let's see where the storm's tracking on Friday evening....
Parts of Metro didn't get power back until last night; here, we got ours back early Tuesday morning. Decent number of trees down all over the place; I noticed plenty down along the sides of roads as I was out yesterday.

Well, I have now been through two Hurricanes, Charley and Frances. Frances has surely been the worst for me. I am still without power not to mention the destruction of my property. Yeah, insurance is there but it is a very small comfort. My family and I have been living with a small generator, enough to keep the fridge and a couple of lights going. The power company expects me to be out about 4 more days.
To repeat a phrase about Ivan "This bad boy needs to go away ... NOW !!!
I was born and raised in Central Florida and will never leave. I will take the good with the bad, including the 2000 election mess. (sorry, had to add a little humor there) I do not live in a Mobile Home and I know there are people out there in worse situations than I am. There will always be people that will make lite of any situation, however, let me give you a little taste of what it is like to live during and in the aftermath of a single Hurricane, not to mention two.
First, the feeder bands on the storm start up, this give you a little indication of what you are getting ready to get hit with. There are intermitten breaks of clouds and sunshine, actually a little deceiving. In my case a little rain is mixed in with the wind, usually horizontal. Then it stops.
Next, a few more bands of the storm enter and there is no cloud gaps with sunshine, just low clouds moving rapidly above you. The wind picks up and continues to get stronger. You watch as Trees shake violently and then snap or fall over with the roots exposed. You witness Electrical Transformers as the blow up and send blue, green and white sparks fly from the pole like a fireworks display. The noise from the explosion resonates through your body. You see shingles and tin being peeled off of roofs and barns. Fences are blown down, yes even chain link fences. You are in complete awe of the power you are witnessing. You hear roaring above your head hoping you don't see a funnel headed your way. Frances lasted from Friday through Sunday for us, it was a very slow moving storm and I happen to live in an area where we received the NE side of the storm. You can't imagine the "Cabin Fever" that sets in after 2 days, you would have to live through it to understand.
While all this is happening your mind is racing, I hope I have prepared enough to keep my family safe. All this in a storm that didn't produce more than 90 mph sustained winds. Considered a Catagory 1.
In the aftermath of the storm, we are fortunate nobody is injured. Generators help, but do not replace your electrical service. Gas is temporarily difficult to get, supplies are short. We cook on the grill, Pancakes, hamburgers, hot dogs and drink bottled water. Milk is in short supply, a large supply was lost by the Dairy Farms due to the storm(s). We shower under the water hose. I am up most of the night making sure nothing happens to the generator. We are locked and loaded for possible looters.
Ivan could possibly be #3. I hope not!
Sorry for the long post, it could have been longer, however, I wanted others who have not experienced what it was like to get a little glimpse of the awesome nature of these storms. There is a lot of stress and anxiety that goes along with it as well.
Regards
Dear God:
Whatever Florida did, "We're Sorry Already!!" You want the Mouse? We'll give up the Mouse! Come and get him, just have mercy on the rest of us! (And run off the thong-clad middle-aged tourists while you're at it.)
Matthew 5:43-45
That's an awfully trollish thing to say. At the best it's way way off topic and poor humor and at the worst it's a slam on our president on a thread where politics shouldn't enter in.
Please rethink postings such as these.
Religion attracts many unstable personalities who enjoy the thought of God's Wrath smiting people they don't like. Some of those people post dire hurricane warnings on Internet sites; others fly airplanes into skyscrapers. The motivating sentiment is exactly the same.
