Non-Americans prefer Kerry: Survey

September 09, 2004 12:48 IST

US presidential hopeful John Kerry's attacks on incumbent George W Bush on the Iraq war may be getting a mixed response in the US, but he seems to be echoing the views of people outside America.

According to a poll conducted by GlobeScan, in conjunction with the Program on International Policy Attitudes, non-Americans, including in countries known as traditional allies of the US, are clearly unhappy with the country's foreign policy under Bush.

In 30 out of 35 countries polled, a majority wants to see Kerry as the next president of the US.

People in India and Thailand did not make a clear preference while those in Philippines, Poland and Nigeria opted for Bush. The poll involved 34,330 people.

Germans were most unhappy with US foreign policy followed by France and Mexico.

Then I guess it's a good thing the socialist weasels don't have a vote.

Probably should've made the Philippines a state. Their electoral votes would've dwarfed California's. I wonder if Israel was polled, surely they'd be at the top for supporting Bush.

If the people who took this poll thought they were going to do Kerry any good by announcing these findings, I think they are going to be sadly mistaken.

Having the rest of the world against a sitting President, in favor of someone who would be more appealing internationally is a good reason to reelect said President, just on general principles.

Of course non-Americans prefer Kerry... He's the weaker candidate who will give them goods and services paid for by Joe and Jane Public...

Why stop at Kerry-Bush? Why not continue with other world figures like Saddam, Arafat, Bin Laden and Castro? That would be illuminating.

And if americans thought like the rest of the world .... WE WOULDNT BE AMERICANS! Since creating a new nation isn't something the "old world" would do. This is just another sign we are on the right track.

If they like him so much, they can have him!

Interesting - the poll was about 35 nations. There are some 200 nations.... but the World prefers Kerry. How were these countries selected? Disraeli once said there are three kinds of lies, lies, damn lies and statistics.
Actually though, Bush would probably lose in most of the other nations as well. That's good enough reason for me to vote for Bush. We haven't gotten where we are in the world by doing what they want, but by doing what we know to be right.... U.S.A...U.S.A...U.S.A...U.S.A...

This wretched survey is getting wall-to-wall coverage. I am trying to figure out whether it will benefit Kerry or Pres. Bush; I suspect the President.

It is the height of irrelevance to see what foreigners think of the U.S. election; we don't get to vote in your elections, you don't get to vote in ours, that's just plain fairness.

Most other countries, even the "civilized" ones, particularly Germany and France, want to bring us down rather than do anything to help us or the rest of the world. So their preference for our president makes perfect sense.

It would be interesting to see how many Allahocracies are on the list of countries they polled.

There is one reason and one reason only that people of other countries want John Kerry. They desire a WEAKER America because a weaker America strengthens them.

There has to be a top dog in the world and America is it. We are the most powerful nation in history and weakling countries do not like this. They want us weakened and John Kerry will do that.
