'60 Minutes' Documents on Bush Might Be Fake

(CNSNews.com) - The 32-year-old documents produced Wednesday by the CBS News program "60 Minutes," shedding a negative light on President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard, may have been forged using a current word processing program, according to typography experts. Three independent typography experts told CNSNews.com they were suspicious of the documents from 1972 and 1973 because they were typed using a proportional font, not common at that time, and they used a superscript font feature found in today's Microsoft Word program. More to Come

Gee this could almost be as bad for CBS 60 Minutes as the stupid fake gasoline tank explosion on GMC Trucks that Dateline went with many moons ago.

Of course AP has to take the cake with the "booing" article.

I want to see FOX News carry this story. If this hits the MSM it will be real bad for the RATS! I am under the firm belief that Snakehead and Forehead are out to get Kerry as Morris says. GO W!

Anyone out there remember the feel of a typewritten paper and how that compares with documents generated by a laser, ink jet or dot matrix printer?

Rush is now discussing this: "People are rising up and discussing this!"

Drudge is flashing it around the globe!

I have seen FReep History unfolding before my eyes, showing the power and reach of Free Republic, and I'm proud of you.

Word processors did not exist at that time, all there was were typewriters, the IBM selectric with the type ball was state of the art. Each character has the same amount of width on the page with a typewriter, proportional space proves its a forgery...

WE NEED TO SEE THOSE MEMOS AGAIN!

They are not in the style that we used when I came in to the USAF. They looked like the style and format we started using about 12 years ago (1992). Our signature blocks were left justified, now they are rigth of center...like the ones they just showed.

Can we get a copy of those memos?

Good, if Rush talks about it in his third hour, then it really will be getting out there.

I still have to thank the people on this board for their hard work on this issue. Very interesting techniques and very informative.

I was suspicious of the forgery claims, but I've read just about everything there is to read about it and from what I've seen it's starting to look like this may be a Watergate moment for CBS. It's already breaking on semi-mainstream news sites. If independent experts can confirm these documents were fake, Dan Rather is going to be toast.

I'll put freeper research up against Old Media any day.

If you can't run with the big dogs, work for CBS!

Re your question, this is what I do:

1. Write letters to the editors.

2. E-Mail articles from Free Republic around to friends in my e-mail address book. A lot of people only get or see the Old Media stuff and they LOVE the new media. (When I e-mail I copy and paste the article itself, not all the comments because people like to print the articles out to share with their friends).

Think about it. We e-mail an article out to 20 people in our address book. They e-mail it out to their friends. And so on.

Rush is reporting on the possibility of fake documents now.
