This is delightful way to frame the end of Dan Rather's career.I disagree with both of you!! Please don't wish for his career to end until just AFTER the upcoming election. I fondly look forward to November - to once again enjoy my very favorite part of any GOP Presidential victory, namely channel-flipping back and forth between Dan and Peter and Tom to watch their long faces, to watch them struggling to hold the tears back!
I have wonderful memories from 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988 and 2000 of watching the emotional meltdown of the major news anchors. Please, oh please, let me see just one more time - for old times' sake - Gunga Dan struggling to avoid tears!

Yes indeed. And more, what is not being mentioned in this or other FR threads on this subject is that Nightline also reported that CBS has re-asserted the authenticity of the documents, the sources, and the support of Killian's contemporaries who claim that the documents reflect what Killian believed. The story might not have had legs if it had not been challenged ; the danger that lurks here for W is that the challenges may give the story the legs it would not otherwise have had. Although it has been said that proportional-spacing typewriters were a rarity in that time period, they were in fact a commonplace in most offices.

Jackson, I listened to this interview and I'll tell you this: this woman didn't say 1/4 of what it says here.
I have no doubt that's what you saw/heard. Drudge could have had a complete *unedited* transcript sent to him -- but -- ABC then aired only a portion of what she said.
I've been interviewed for TV and that's what happened with me.
