The problem here is that you could say that about almost anything. Once you posit divine intervention, you leave the realm of science completely.

But in order for the Bible to have any relevance at all, you must believe that divine intervention is absolutely central to understanding reality. Without faith in God as the Bible reveals Him, there's not much point in the Bible!

For faith yes, in science not a chance. "God did it" just doesn't cut it with a technical paper. When I look at the CMB and realize this is evidence for the Big Bang, I am not implying that God did or did not have a hand in it. In fact science must remain neutral in this realm or it stops being science and becomes a matter of faith instead.

Something to think about: You may have noticed that religion itself has evolved as the human race furthered its understanding of this universe. For example, the Old Testament was very geocentric, however, very few adhere to that worldview any more.

Which were burned? How did Gideon know how many men to use against the Midianites? And your question was not, "How did these councils know which books to burn and which to keep?" . It was, "why the requirement for the councils?".

And the answer to your last question is obvious. If it is the Word of God, God intervened. The Holy Bible is the Word of God. It is not the work of a single human being.
