that more important questions than how we got the story, which is where those who don't like the story like to put the emphasis, the more important question is what are the answers to the questions raised in the story, But Dan, if the documents are forgeries, then there are no questions to be answered, other than WHO PROVIDED THE FORGED DOCUMENTS!

I believe CBS and Rather released the fake documents KNOWING they were probably fake, just to take the spotlight away from the POW Vietnam Vets, who released their documentary DVD this week showing Kerry's 1971 speech before the US Senate really did harm POWS in Vietnam.
That's the way things work.

This will be the official spin from CBS
"We don't know whether the documents are forged or not. We are still investigating. But we were wrong to release them without verifying completely and we are sorry for that".
This way, they don't accept responsibility and they can just hope for another story like a hurricane to divert our attention.
