Ditto, unless the poll included only registered rats.
It is utter horse manure. They gotta stop taking their poll in DFW and around West Lake in Austin. Get out to where the real Texans are...
That said, the radio show First Light which I heard this AM was citing some new poll- dam if I can recall the name, Auken-somthing, which claimed 57% wanted the AWB renewed.
The callers I heard were opposed, FWIW.
#28 is the absolute, undisputed, best answer on this thread!
Yes, like everyone else, I know that this is a BS poll. The clear reason is that the vast majority of people (even, sadly, in Texas) don't know what an "assault weapon" is under the AWB. They see some report on CNN or C(an't see) BS with a guy shooting a full auto gun while the AWB is being discussed, and they automatically (no pun intended) think that repeal means that any 10-year-old can go down to the local Piggly-Wiggly and buy a full-auto AK-47, Uzi or MAC-10. We all know it is BS, but it doesn't really matter right now - because we won this round. The AWB will expire 1 second after 11:59:59 PM EST on 9/12 (i.e. on Monday the buying begins). About a year or so later, I hope that there's a national discussion about what a bunch of lying fear-mongers the antis are, coupled with some new and appropriate legislative proposal (like, for instance, repeal of the Lautenberg Amendment or the '86 machine gun ban).
Meanwhile, I'll continue to get sore ribs looking at #28.
I'm just guess-timating. I really didn't go around a Gov't office asking who's opposed to assault weapons. I just am basing that on people's reactions over the years to my targets hanging up and talking about shooting and hunting.
BS! If this was true Democrats would be pushing it hard from coast to coast, but they're not, because it's a losing issue for them.
Elections are the only poll that count and it spoke very loudly in 1994, 1996 and 2000.
"80% of Texans...yeaaah, that's the ticket! 80%!"
Be Ever Vigilant ~ Bump!
The assault weapon ban is rife with loopholes and applies to just 1.6 percent of guns used in crimes, Mr. Dark said.
But in the five years before the 1994 ban, assault weapons accounted for 4.8 percent of the guns used in crimes, according to a Justice Department study.
I ain't buying this, even for a dollar.
Johnny had two apples.....then the democrats got a law passed that said he could only have one so he sold one and
bought apple seeds now he sells to the government.
Makes about as much sense.
Texas ping..
No way this poll repersents all Texans. No "gun control" law of any variety would ever pass in the state of Texas. Place it on the ballot and you will see.
Everyone in my TEXAS family wants the ban to sunset--I'll bet we number more people than they polled!!!
Total Convictions for Offenses in Texas DPS Study in 2001:
Non-Licensed 35,070
Licensed 180
Conviction rate is 195 times higher for those who do not have Concealed Carry Licenses
No, we haven't noticed the benefits of weapons in our state /sarc
BS, pure BS.
80 percent of Texans want ban
on assault weapons renewed
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Texas ping list!. . .don't be shy.
No, you don't HAVE to be a Texan to get on this list!
Consider the source. The Dallas Morning News.
Oh, yeah! I saw that. The DMN is full of themselves, as always.
No way Jose.
