Attempt to dump [forced universal] mental screening fails

An amendment offered by Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, in the House of Representatives yesterday that would have remove from an appropriations bill a new mandatory mental-health screening program for America's children failed by a vote of 95-315.

Paul's amendment would have removed the program from the Labor, HHS and Education Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2005. Ninety-four Republicans and one Democrat sided with Paul, while 118 Republicans, 196 Democrats and one Independent voted against the amendment.

As WorldNetDaily reported, the New Freedom Initiative recommends screening not only for children but eventually for every American. The initiative came out of the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, which President Bush established in 2002.

Critics of the plan say it is a thinly veiled attempt by drug companies to provide a wider market for high-priced antidepressants and antipsychotic medication, and puts government in areas of Americans' lives where it does not belong.

As WND reported yesterday, Kent Snyder of the Paul-founded Liberty Committee argued strongly against the program:

"The real payoff for the drug companies is the forced drugging of children that will result – as we learned tragically with Ritalin – even when parents refuse."

The congressman, who is known for his strict adherence to the Constitution, wrote in a letter to his colleagues before the vote: "As you know, psychotropic drugs are increasingly prescribed for children who show nothing more than children's typical rambunctious behavior. Many children have suffered harmful effects from these drugs. Yet some parents have even been charged with child abuse for refusing to drug their children. The federal government should not promote national mental-health screening programs that will force the use of these psychotropic drugs such as Ritalin."

The New Freedom Commission found that "despite their prevalence, mental disorders often go undiagnosed" and recommended comprehensive mental-health screening for "consumers of all ages," including preschool children.

The commission said, "Each year, young children are expelled from preschools and childcare facilities for severely disruptive behaviors and emotional disorders."

Schools, the panel concluded, are in a "key position" to screen the 52 million students and 6 million adults who work at the schools.

Chris Baker, a local talk show host on KPRC radio, had Dr. Paul on his show this afternoon talking about this bill. Chris pointed out how this is another step in the Communist Manifesto to put mental health professionals in charge of society. Dr. Paul pointed out how something like this can follow all of us in our records for something as simple as having religious beliefs against homosexuality or just being a Christian and holding Christian values or values of any kind that the professional evauluating you does not agree with. It needs to be STOPPED dead in its tracks.

Unfortunately, he posted it so early, that it scrolled off the Free Republic front page before many had a chance to see it. Bookmark it. Get the news out to other publications. I hope that President Bush is elected, but I also hope very much that the "New Freedom Commission" (Orwellian) is shut down. I like Laura Bush very much, too, but her experience in public education was in places where one can afford to be a Pollyanna. Psych. professionals in most other parts of the country, as many of us have seen in their programs in the universities, are a bunch of control-obsessed kooks.

You betcha....the Soviets used "mental health" as the main excuse to fill up their Gulags...
If you didn't agree with the running of the country by those in power.....you had mental health problem
If you were an evangelical Christian...in a Marxist Atheist state....you had a mental health problem
If you did anything or said anything to offend one of these arrogant bass turds....you had a mental health problem...

All they needed was a couple of 'professionals' to say the word...you disappeared along with your property...as all human being are state property...to be disposed of as the state sees fit.

There is ONLY ONE REASON a state wants these kinds of laws on the books....

Once the pseudo scientists get hold of the system you are at their mercy...and their arbitrary codes of 'mental health' depending largely on their whims and pseudo science

I'll make a deal with you. I'll furnish the names (below), if you'll help get the word out to the world now by way of major/minor publishing, column writing, blog, e-mail list, word of mouth or otherwise. I don't want Kerry for President. If this word gets out to everyone (everyone) late (which is what's in the works right now), Kerry will be the next President. If it gets out early, our President and other Republicans will find a way to permanently kill his ordered "initiative" and Commission. Then our Republican Campaign can recover and win.

Here's your answer. Our President started the Commission by Executive Order. The Bill (H.R. 5006) sends the first funding to it. So the names of those Republicans in favor of  universal, forced mental health screening follow.

Their legislature slimed through the bill, with no discussion. The discussion came after they passed it.

That would certainly send a message. If word could get out to enough of the populace, he would win the vote. Some of the Democrat and even teacher sites are already running rage pieces at Democrats who voted against Paul's Amendment (Amendment to stop universal screening).

This is NOT good. Not good at ALL. My son had *issues* for a few years. (From ages 3-10) I knew that there was something wrong, but I refused to believe that the behavior was the problem. Instead, I took the mindset that the behavior was a symptom of a problem.

I was right. It took me many doctors, many tests, homeschooling, and (finally) a two-year migraine to pin-point the really cause of his hyperactivity and mild Autism-like symptoms. He's a Celiac. He gets drunk on wheat, oats, rye and barley. We stopped feeding him gluten products and I have a normal, sociable, healthy (except for the diabetes), well-adjusted young man.

I don't know what would've happened to him had I relented to the pressure to put him on behavior modifying medications. I'm so glad that he's mine!
