Thank you for doing this. I have been wanting to see, in ONE location, a summary of all the likely errors and inconsistencies of the Killian memos.

Bookmarked.

Has anyone else noticed that when you open the CBS documents with the full version of Acrobat 6 a notice pops up that indicates the document was created with Photoshop?

23. Bush's grade would be abbreviated "1Lt" not "1stLt"

Not necessarily true.

33. Why no three hole punches evident at the top of the page?

Holes at the top number two, not three. Holes at the sides will number 3 or 5.

43. Subject line in memos was normally CAPITALIZED in the military

http://www.cis.net/~coldfeet/doc5.gif <-- But not always the case

Here's an article that says there was typewriters that did porportional spacing and superscripts. Debunking needed.

2). StOp using the 'superscript' arguement.
The average person will think it was possible with
a diferent typewriter ball.
.
Investigate the 'curly' apostrophe issue.
Find out if the IBM Selectric Composer
had a font with such a character.

You can see a difference in paper size in the copies. It almost looks as if the originals might be in a binder. The dots just might be mildew/foxing. I'll pull out some old '70's documents and see what happens when I copy them. I know I had to clean the glass when they started showing up so it may be that the papers are with someone who has an old dirty copier on hand.

#39 - matley is on record now (I think in LA Times article) as saying she only opined to the accuracy of 1 document - not all 4. She specifically could not opin to 3 of the 4

Item 34- correction
If officer was approaching annual due date for a flight physical (Bush's was due in July) he would have received a routine letter notifying him of pending requirement, month or date by which flight physical was to be competed, and advising him to call flight surgeon's office to schedule the apppointment.

There would not be an "order" issued!

And if any orders ever are issued in writing, they are NOT on issued via a Memroandum!!! Never!!!!! Any copies of any military orders issued to Bush should have been retained in officer's file as well as files of his unit.

59. The unit name abbreviations use periods. This is incorrect. USAF unit abbreviations use only capital letters with no periods. For example, 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron would be abbreviated as 111th FIS, not 111th F.I.S.

Depends on who does the typing. There is at least one example with periods ...

I'll probably find more, but do have a general comment. Where the list makes an assertion, provide a citation to support the assertion. For example, the source for Air Force acronyms. Where the item is an open question with no clear substantiating citation, describe the type of evidence that would be useful to prove or disprove the contention.

IMPORTANT: Please change ALL references to Richard B Killian to Jerry B Killian. I don't know where the 'Richard' came from but it is WRONG. I checked the CBS pdfs and the ones released by the WH in February to verify this.

Item 58- in 1972 and 1973, the USAF rank designator used in correspondence would have been 2Lt or 1Lt- an officer or clerk by training and habit would not have used "1st Lt". Not even in 1972.

1. CBS has provided zero provenance...but they are citing provenance as being a major reason for authentication. Would you buy an antique from someone who did that?
