I really believe we do not want Rather (or Jennings or Blitzer) to resign - they are too valuable as opponents. Thank God they are active and thank God for the Internet and the Bloggers.

Asked about a Kerry connection to the forged memo, a senior CBS official told the New York Post, "I can't answer that question."

I assume the NY Post ran an article with this information. Has that been posted on FR, and can anyone provide a link, or a title? Thanks.

I think that Dan Rather, CBS, and Kerry will all go down on the same "swift" boat. How wonderful that would be!

Does anyone know if this appeared in a NYT article we can use that shows this CBS executive refusing to answer?

The CBS producer said that some alarms bells went off last week when the signatures and initials of Killian on the documents in hand did not match up with other documents available on the public record, but producers chose to move ahead with the story. "This was too hot not to push. If there were doubts, those people didn't show it," says the producer, who works on a rival CBS News program.

Doesn't that seem to be the opposite of responsible sense? Of COURSE it is: THIS is 60 Minutes we're talking about here!!

I think you mean the Post and I'm wondering the same thing. Now that would be pretty big.

I would assume "asked by a reporter from the New York Post". Checking with their news desk now.

Exactly. Staudt retired in March(?) of 1972.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20040912-125608-4609r.htm
The Forged memo of 18August1973 has Killian supposedly saying that Staudt was pressuring to "sugar coat".

Which is impossible. Staudt was not involved in the process...or the Guard in 1973......BECAUSE HE RETIRED IN 1972.

CBS was pathetic when this revelation was revealed...they said he could have still put pressure. Of course...the Dallas Morning News articles have cited High ranking officers who were involved who state the obvious....That Staudt could hold no pressure or power on anybody. BECAUSE HE WAS NO LONGER IN THE GUARD......AND HE NO LONGER HAD WHAT EVERY HIGHER OFFICER NEEDS TO PRESSURE PEOPLE.......HE HAD NO SAY OR INFLUENCE ON PROMOTIONS>

Dan Rather will never resign.

True, he won't resign. He will continue to say, "It's not about the documents, it's about the charge." He will hope that if he continues to deny, he can change the perception, ergo, the truth. He will deny this to the VERY END, even if he's kicked upstairs.

But this is out of control for him now. He will continue to hunker down and hope the news cycles will make this fade away.

That might have worked five years ago, but since then there's been a revolution:

The Blogosphere Revolution

Call a taxidermist, and clear the space above your mantlepiece. You might just be able to mount Rather's and Kerry's heads there as trophies.

, but a smaller segment believe that both the DNC and the Kerry campaign were duped by Karl Rove

Duped by Karl Rove.....just the kind of leaders we want defending America and dealing with the Saddams of the world.

Don't they realize how DUMB this makes them look?

According to one ABC News employee, some reporters believe that the Kerry campaign as well as the DNC were parties in duping CBS, but a smaller segment believe that both the DNC and the Kerry campaign were duped by Karl Rove, who would have engineered the flap to embarrass the opposition.

That evil genius Karl Rove has his hands in everything. How does he do it all? When does he sleep? Does he have a twin brother that he communicates with telepathically? Was he part of a CIA experiment when he was a child? Is he even human? LOL

In a development that could have devastating implications for John Kerry's presidential campaign, CBS News is refusing to say whether the top Democrat, his campaign aides or any other prominent party officials had anything to do with supplying "60 Minutes" with a National Guard memo about President Bush that experts say was forged.

Which rat is going to fall on the sword for the good of the party? My bet is the mail room guy.

What?? We did it but Karl Rove made us do it? How dumb do these people think the public is?

I agree with you about Newsmax. But 60 Minutes made an art form out of turning no comment into guilt by their editing and voice over techiniques of people slamming doors, turning their back and walking away, and hanging up phones with no comment. Turnabout is fair play, if CBS is tarred by the same unfair techniques which it profited from for so many years.
