If our leaders are dictators, wouldn't Mr. Dyckman's article land him in prison? Yes!! Absolutely!! Off with his head!!

Though presumptively legal under the Constitution, that was a dictatorial act in light of the modern expectation that the people, not the politicians, elect the president. Though presumptively legal under the first amendment to the Constitution, Martin Dyckman's article is a piece of incoherent trash in light of the modern expectation that commentators exhibit even a modest shred of honesty and truthfulness in their writings.

The Washington punditry corps regurgitated that as fact and helped give the Republicans exactly what they did want: a senator (actually, two senators) on the opposition ticket. This so funny...the Democrats who voted for them are absolved of responbility for who they nominated and somehow became puppets of the Republican party.

A few problems. Roosevelt didn't put anyone away in a camp because of their RACE - but a Dem would insinuate that. The interned were Japanese mainly but also some Germans and Italians.
As far as the vote of the Republicans in Florida, they didn't do anything that the Dems wouldn't have done themselves. Indeed the Dems attempted to steal the election by counting selective Democratic areas, and running their padded votes idea thru the Dem controlled Florida Supreme Ct.
Personally, I am afraid of a possible Dictatorship. It was close when it looked like Gore wasn't going to leave he White House... and the stock market began its fall, as I recall. The way the Dems are ignoring facts, distorting facts, hate BUSH and rant and rave uncontrollably, they might go for a dictatorship, if they had a chance. The dying political screams of the socialist left in the Dem party worries me. Geez, had a terrible thought - what if the lefties regroup in the GOP and steal it as they did the Dem party.

To that list must be added the deception that the Republicans wanted Howard Dean for their opponentTo your point: Obviously, if the GOP is cunning enough to deceive everybody and pull a bait and switch with Dean and Kerry, you would think they are cunning enough to pull off a dictatorship without anybody knowing it!!!
