Questioning CBS Memo's PO Box Number
Blogs for Bush ^

Posted on 09/13/2004 2:03:09 PM PDT by reprobate

This pertains to the P.O. box numbers on the CBS memos.

I need some help verifying this. Is it true that the use of five-digit P.O. box numbers did not come into use until the advent of ZIP+4 in 1983? I have seen elsewhere, that prior to Zip+4, P.O. boxes were numbered 1 through 999. Box counts beyond 999 would have been assigned a new zip code. With the advent of ZIP+4, box numbers were derived from the last two digits of the post office branch zip code plus the individual box number. I’ve been trying to verify this P.O. box numbering change to no avail. Perhaps someone else will be more successful.

The same PO Box appears on other documents believed to be genuine.

THIS HAS BEEN DEBUNKED! That PO Box number is also used on a LEGITIMATE Bush document.

I wish this PO BOX thing would be DROPPED!

Do you have a link to those other documents? That 34567 PO box number bothers me.

Can you give me a link showing the legitimate Bush doc. with PO Box 34567? That would be, you know, helpful.

Lots of people are. They took a story by the MSM, which contained the eroroneous statement that PO Box 34567 was evidence of forgery.

I actually think the PO BOX also appeared on an actual Bush document (one from Bush's actual file)-- I don't think they were that sloppy. But I always thought a letterhead like that put the physical address and the mailing.

Granted I am not quite up to speed on the zip code. The only place that zip appears in your link is in a pretty hokey memo requesting reassignment. Given that it was likely hand delivered, LT Bush may well have not known the address and banged out BS, or that document itself is not authentic. That PO Box did not appear in any of the other references to the 111th FIS.

That said, it should be easily enough to establish. There is probably a freeper in that zip in Houston or near it. Go check it out with the local postmaster.

CBS and the MSM seem to think that if there existed in the world at the time some type of typewriter, no matter how expensive and complicated, that the memos must be true. Case closed; they don't want to look any more. NEXT!

See page 9, Box #16. It has the complete address, PO Box, ZIP Code and all.

Thanks. :-)

The post at Gawain's link seems to both verify that the PO Box is real AND provide more circumstantial evidence for the memos being fakes. It seems that what has been shown here is where, exactly, the forger got the idea of using PO Box 34567 as the address on the memo.

No offense intended to anybody doing their best to expose these frauds (Kerry, Rather, CBS, DNC etc), but the Left is intellectually dishonest about all these inquiries. What they are TRYING to do is use any error in our questions or factual disputes - to dismiss the whole boatload.

The SwiftBoat Vet controversy is a case in point. Some small factual discrepancies in the accounts of the SwiftBoat Vets are jumped on by these prevaricating scumbags as "proof" that the hundreds of pages of detailed SwiftVet accounts are ALL fraudulent.

Like prosecutors in a murder case, we on the right must be meticulous and scrupulous in our examination of these documents - and lay out the most devastating evidence against them, and give them no cover with red herrings that we may carelessly let fall into their grimy paws.

I think we should send letters to the address on the forged memos, but put Dan Rather's CBS news address as the return address..

with a 'return requested' note.. I think he'd be liable for the return postage...

Ok, noted (and thanks again for the heads-up).

Either way these details should all be sorted out in an intellectually honest way.

the box number was on pre-prined letterhead for the fighter group. Did the fighter intercept squadron have the same box number as the fighter group? I don't know

Some of the assertions at Gawains link are incorrect. ...

Unfortunately for CBS, P.O. Box 34567 appears to have belonged to the 147th Fighter Group, not the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.

As you see in http://www.usatoday.com/news/bushdocs/6-Reassignments_Spilt_Training.pdf, page 9, Box #16, shows that PO Box, that ZIPcode, being associated with the 111st FIS.

I think this came from the Feb 2004 WH Bush military records doc dump.

Yes. And, instead of getting into all the details, the question the press needs to ask, and have answered is NOT theses little details (then they'll fall into the same extended discussions we have here), but instead, the bottom line questionis "Have the documents been authenticated?" Not just the signature, but the complete document. For various reasons, the documents cannot be honestly authenticated.

This information is from the Wikipedia site at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_code#ZIP.2B4

ZIP+4
1. In 1983, the Postal Service began using an expanded ZIP Code system called "ZIP+4", which are often called "plus-four codes". A ZIP+4 code uses of the basic 5-digit ZIP plus an additional 4-digits to identify a geographic segment within the 5-digit delivery area, such as a city block or a group of apartments or an individual high-volume receiver of mail, or any other unit that could use an extra identifier to aid in efficient mail sorting and delivery. Use of the plus-four code is not required, but it helps the Postal Service direct mail more efficiently and accurately because it reduces handling and significantly decreases the potential for human error and possibility of misdelivery.
