K Street freezes out Dems (sign that Dems are in trouble?)
The Hill ^ | 9/15/04 | Hans Nichols

Retiring House Democrats are feeling a cold draft from K Street as they seek post-congressional employment at lobbying firms, trade groups and corporations.

By contrast, K Street is aggressively courting GOP lawmakers who have announced their retirements, suggesting that the business community is confident the GOP will retain the Speaker’s gavel in January and that business wants to fortify its Republican Rolodexes.

The business community’s apparent preference for retiring House Republicans is stoking talk on Capitol Hill that the “K Street Project” is alive and well, even after the year’s plum lobbying job, the top slot at the Motion Picture Association of America, went to former Clinton Cabinet member Dan Glickman.

The aide continued: “There are many Democrats who are proven to be very pro-business. The business community should be seeking them out and welcoming them so that they demonstrate that they are interested in working with Congressional Democrats.”

Many? Name one.

Heh-heh....That would certainly explain Kerry's hiring of every out of work Clinton hack of late. If anyone thinks those people are really unpaid staffers, I've got some documents to sell you. The campaign pays a consulting firm a huge fee and enters it as a line item in campaign finances. The consulting firm just happens to have the Clintonista on it's board of directors.

On the radio today, I heard another report that said the Saudis are going to start pumping an extra 800,000 barrels of oil in order to keep oil prices stable. Looks like the Saudis' pollsters are telling them the same thing K Street is telling the Dems.

Dooley, who was beaten out by Rep. Jim Greenwood (R-Pa.) for the top job at the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), told The Hill that “there’s some truth” to the effectiveness of the K Street Project, which is a GOP-led effort to persuade lobbying firms to hire Republicans in their top positions.

This K Street Project sounds like something the Dems are going to use against us. Or am I missing something?

At a minmum, if a former member of Congress takes a job representing a foreign government, he should lose his pension. As for what former GOP senators and representatives can do, aren't they able to get jobs as political science professors? Doesn't pay as much as K Street, but our colleges and universities sure need their influence.

So what's Barney Framk's sister doing these days? How about Sid Blumenthal? Craig Livingstone? Susan McDougal? I'm sure Susan burns thru cash faster than an S&L can run a daily balance sheet.

Many former Clintonistas landed jobs as Chancellors of state run universities. Most pulling in over a million a year in salary, housing, air travel, limosenes, and speaking fees.

Not one landed a job with a private, non taxpayer funded university. Sort of telling huh?

Not enough room at the trough for all the little piggies. I'd like to see political patronage jobs eliminated as a practice in both parties. It's sick. It's not like they need the social security plan, 401K matching, or the health plan? They've already got that for life.

Registered, PLEASE! Only do an entire phalanx of hookers and some identifiable cruising johns that look like the johns. Hillary can be the pimp. You can have BJ selling crack to the Hollywood elite.
