John Kerry Campaign Hires Fired Worker
POSTED: 9:06 am EDT September 15, 2004
DETROIT -- Democrat John Kerry has a new campaign worker helping him drum up support in Alabama after hiring a woman who was fired for displaying the presidential candidate's bumper sticker on her car.
Kerry called Lynne Gobbell on Tuesday after reading a newspaper story describing how she had been fired last Thursday from her job packing cellulose insulation at a Moulton, Ala., plant.
Gobbell said her former employer had told her she could either work for him or Kerry. She said Kerry told her, "Let him know that as of today, you're working for John Kerry." "He was proud of me for standing up for what I believe in," the newly employed, 41-year-old said of her quick phone call with the candidate.
Gobbell said Kerry didn't offer too many details about her new position. She will be helping the campaign and may be traveling a little as it gets closer to the election.
She could receive help from another corner, as well. A liberal Web site, AMERICAblog.org, began raising money for Gobbell on Monday night after learning of her dismissal. John Aravosis, who runs the site, said he collected $1,800 over a 24-hour period.
Hats off to the man who fired her!
Cool! So next time when I screw up at my job, I'll just slap a Kerry sticker on my car and inform the news service! Really saves time! Wow.
She'll soon be unemployed again. Less than sixty days
probably.
I think the employer is a jerk to fire her. What relevance does her bumper sticker have to job performance? If the shoe were on the other foot and she were fired for having a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker (and something very likely to happen in the blue state I'm in), you'd be singing a different tune.

I bet I know what her job with the Kerry campaign is...eating all of Kerry's take-out orders from the BBQ, fastfood, etc. restaurants they stop at to "mingle with the little folk."
BWAHAHAHA!
Sooooo- Today is Sept 15, and she has a job until Nov 2. Doesn't sound like anything more than Peewee's Great Adventure, kinda like a long camping trip.
What did she do in her prior job that makes her qualified to work for Kerry? How about her home/family responsibilities? Yup- the Great Adventure.....
Who's to say its true?
Yes, and she will hire John Edwards to sue her former employer for 15 million dollars.
I don't think she will ever have to work another day in her life.
If she's parking in his parking lot I guess he has every right to not want he political advertising on his property...and she has every right to find another job.
sKerry is in Madison, Wis today.
In Madison, they would call this lady "a healthy heifer".
This is the next vicitm! Gore had his can woman (the woman who had to pick up deposit cans to pay for her perscription drugs). Kerry has his bumper sticker gal - I bet her job got "outsourced" too.
I recon he can pretty much set standards for vehicles on his property.
Exactly! The dims are proven liars, you can't believe a word any of them say.
A likely story!
They hired her to tighten up Kerry's message on Iraq. She will have the desk right next to Begala and Carvel.
I'm sure the kerry campaign agrees.
More to the story I'm sure. Sounds like maybe she was campaigning on the job and may had adversely affected the workplace.
I'm sure they do. They could put a Kerry T-Shirt on her and they've got a living bill board...for cheap.
I am sure his actions are Great News to the Bush Campaign.
Yeah as his on the road food tester.
I would hope the Bush Campaign supports property rights. She didn't.
Maybe Dan Rather can go work for Kerry too.
Well, if the story is true, then her former employer deserves to be sued into bankruptcy: when working there, she was selling her work, not her soul (or mind, or opinions). It appears that her former employer demanded way more than was due to him.
If that's the only reason for her firing, then the boss shouldn't have done it. He should have shown her the error of her ways. I have to deal with a lot of Kerry supporters, and just try to be pleasant and defeat all their stereotypes of mean, racist, warmongering Republicans. Who knows, I may win one over.
Of course, if someone is stupid enough to support Kerry, is it even possible that she'd do a decent job or be the slightest bit responsible? I don't know, but I tend to think she should have been fired only for poor performance or for violation of established company policy or rules.
Good for Kerry--She belongs on his team. She was such a dumb-dumb. Knowing that she was going to tick off her boss and then complaining about the result--and seeking unemployment benefits to boot! Typical lazy Democrat. Kerry is getting just what he deserves--another "average American worker" who would rather live on the dole than turn in eight hours of honest labor!
If the guy is really that stupid, yeah, he deserves to be sued, but I doubt she'd get more than a few grand.
I'm willing to bet she did not get fired - words may have been exchanged and she may have walked out.
I don't see any effort in the print articles to contact the guy for his side.
Teehee.
The owner did however say that she could not display a Kerry sticker in the parking lot he owns.
Shoulda taken her old job back. This one is good for, oh, about 60 days or so.
Besides, if she really had been such an innocent victim of discrimination, she would have gotten a legal-aid lawyer immediately, not a reporter. Furthermore, for some reason (perhaps a job performance record), her unemployment benefits are in question.
Well, I don't think it's right to fire her for her Political views. In fact, that probably opens him up to legal action.
She sort of looks like Michael Moore in drag, doesn't she? However, she's much thinner than MM!
Yes, he's a nut for deciding what kind of political advertising can be displayed on his property. So, I take it you would have no objection if the Kerry campaign were to put a sign up in your yard.
Your comprehension of the matter is zilch. The employer doesn't own the woman's car and doesn't own the woman. The employer violated her 1st Amend rights and 18USC245. She's now paid to go around telling her story about how some mean jckas R Bush supporter screwed her. How well that goes depends on whether Ashcroft's Justice dept acts in the matter.
Something about this story is fishy...the employer is basically stuck because he probably cannot talk about her work record legally. I think that's confidential info. Who's to say, she may have gotten in trouble for the sticker and fired for something totally different. The employer can't really speak about it, can he?
She's the newest poster child for the democratic party and that is fine with me.
She serves at the employer's pleasure. He can fire her for any damned reason he wishes. When you attain that status of employer, make a valid comment. Until then, STFU, jerk.
You have it backwards...the woman doesn't own the bosses property so she has no right to display political advertising on his property without his permission.
So, she's going to pack cellulose insulation for Kerry? What high-end skills does that require? It's hard not to laugh.
I tell you, the guy is all heart!
Her supervisor has spoken up in other stories. All she had to do was remove a poltical advertisement from the owners property. She elected not to then becomes the latest media darling for the evils of the right.
Again, she ain't and never was his property, niether was her car. The woman was part of the company team until she failed to turn over her 1st amend rights to "the employer" the bankruptcy lawyer.
"She'll soon be unemployed again."
And so will John Edwards.
Socialism at it's finest !!!!
