HELP!!! I need some info on the History of Free Republic!
Today | Mad Dawgg

Posted on 09/17/2004 12:37:17 AM PDT by Mad Dawgg

I am doing some research on the NEW MEDIA. There used to be a thread on here that had some history about how Free Republic started. But I can't for the life of me find it in the archives.

If any of you have links or knowledge on the subject I would surely appreciate if you would post them in this thread.

I have several friends and customers (I FReep in my place of business) who want more info on this site. Further, I also have been asked to give a talk to a local community group about the New Media so I need to get on the ball, and get it all ready in time for the talk.

Thank you all in advance!

Mad Dawgg A.K.A. Pajama Clad FReeper.

Once upon a time there was a magical place called FreeRepublic. Bad presidents got impeached, good presidents got elected, and everybody posted fun posts all day long while dressed in pajamas. And we all lived happily ever after, except for the part where we explained to our husbands about why we were up after midnight in our nighties posting on FreeRepublic...

THE NOT END

I know that this may not be exactly what your asking for but it is a great thing to use:

It is the wayback machine. You can see what this site looked like along time ago Dec 21, 1996. Wow!

http://web.archive.org/web/19961221165158/http://freerepublic.com/

It works for most sites. Check out how ebay and google used to look, interesting

In fact you may want to consider FR to be a byproduct of the damage BJ Clinton's outragious behavior did and continues to do to the Democratic Party.

His antics and disrespect for the institution of the Presidency created a furious, mobilizing backlash that the left and the pundits still cannot grasp.

In addition, being a member of FR convinced quite a few Freepers to start their own blogs. My little news site is pretty popular. People surf in from about 63 countries world wide every month. (In fact, when we invaded Iraq, I was able to track visitors from Baghdad who logged onto my site from a Russian ISP) My disabilities required me to curtail my efforts at personal commentary. But I still spend about two hours each day posting news reports. Check my tag line.

In the early days we had a lib named ASH. Dickie Morris was a freeper then also. Drudge was unknown, but linked, and then 3 years into it all we had a "March for Justice"!

(Been here since early '98, but braindead since '99)

Wow. That would slow down the pace...posting by way of punchcards. Checking back 5 hours later to find an error with card #1372, resubmitting the cards and finding an error on card #2331 three hours later...repeat 5 more times, post entered one day later and everyone forgetting what the subject of the thread was. Then go out and have another beer.

Well, first the earth cooled.

Then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they died and turned into oil.

Then the Arabs came and bought Mercedes-Benzes . . .

Oh, wait. You didn't ask for me to tell you EVERYTHING up until this point.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

And God looked down upon the earth and said, "AlGore. Go forth and create the Internet."

And in a land far to the West there was a man named Jim Robinson, who looked upon the face of the deeply distrusted Main Stream Media and said, "Lo and Behold. Thou good and faithful people. We needest a new news outlet that can be used for good, and not for evil."

And so it came to pass, good servant Robinson brought forth a new website, one that grew in power and stature as the good Lord deemed appropriate.

The End.
