John Kerry states "My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam. I don't own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle."

uh, an AK is Russian, hardly Chinese. if lurch has a chinese machine gun (or any other kind), then he needs to be investigated by ATF, charged, and thrown in the hoosegow.

Cool. Maybe he can go hunting with Feinstein and Schumer.

charged, and thrown in the hoosegow.

The ATF don't throw people in the hoosegow.

They burn your house down.

Saves money in court costs.

Did he bring this back from Vietnam? or was it smuggled into the country at a later time? If he brought it back that would be an illegal war trophy. If it were smuggled, that just speaks for itself.

Well, don't get too wound up about this.

If Kerry in fact has a Kalashnikov of some sort, odds are
it's a DEWAT - DEactivated WAr Trophy - welded receiver.
Entirely legal at the fed level, and maybe even in the
Peoples State of Taxachusetts.

So the question isn't "where's the rifle"?
It's first "what is it?"

If it were deactivated wouldn't you think he would mention that. I think JFK has been deactivated, disconnected and discomboberated.

Decisions. Decisions. So many choices, so little time.

So, a minor detail in the proof. John Kerry answer the question. In all fairness, I have to give credit to Dan Rather for that response.

The AK-47’s used by the Vietcong were a true select fire rifle. Didn’t the GCA of ’68 prohibit the import of machineguns except for government use? Please correct me if I am wrong but if this is a Vietnam war bring back and it arrived in the US after the signing of the Gun Control Act of 1968 it cannot be a legally registered machinegun. Under the National Firearms Act of 1934 possession of an unregistered machinegun is a felony punishable by 10 years and $250,000. Kerry came back in 1969, right?

It might actually be more useful to leave his "core"
wondering if the boss owns a real full-auto-capable
assault rifle. AWB supporter indeed.

JfK is just amazing. He's not just a traditional
waffler who's on both sides of every issue; on many
key topics, he seems to have at least THREE positions.

Clinton recently told him:
"John, that's not what I meant by 'triangulate'",
but it went right over Kerry's head.

AK-47s, as well as SKSs were made in Russia, China, Czechoslovakia, etc. The Russian-made models were the best of the lot.

It is a Warsaw Pact rifle - commie made - but a damn fine weapon. I still use my Chinese SKS for deer hunting. It's pretty accurate up to 150-175 yards or so. The 7.62 X 39 soft core ammo drops 'em in their tracks.

Gun-smuggling John Kerry admits violating gun laws

Today, Senator John Kerry (Democrat, MA) admitted violating Federal and Military law, stating "one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle."

Ownership of fully automtic assault rifles used by the Viet Cong (VC) or North Vietnamese Army (NVA) is illegal in the United States. These military assault weapons can kill dozens of people in a crowd with one pull of the trigger.

Only people with specialized Federal permits are allowed to own such weapons. Whether Senator Kerry is a member of this rarified group of gun afficionados has not been determined at this time.

Usually a public admission of fully automatic weapons ownership is accompanied by a declaration that such ownership is properly permitted by Federal authorities. Senator Kerry's admission of ownership without proper licensing suggests he stands in violation of gun laws.

Bringing back war trophies is illegal under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Recently, several servicemen returning from Iraq have had their trophies confiscated, and have been subjected to Military disciplinary actions, up to imprisonment and dishonorable discharge. Senator Kerry's admission puts him afoul of rules in place at the time he returned from Viet Nam.

Just this week, Senator Kerry condemned the Bush Administration's lack of a fight in favor of extending the ill-named "Assault Weapons Ban" (AWB). The ban that ended this past week controlled the number of bullets in a gun clip, and certain stock and hand-grip features. These features make guns look like they are for military use (hence the AWB's nickname "Ugly Gun Cosmetic Control"), but the features do not make them appreciably more dangerous than the Browning Automatic Rifle used by many deer hunters each fall. All of these weapons fire one bullet per pull of the trigger.

The AWB did not apply to the fully automatic feature of Senator Kerry's gun, in which one pull of the trigger results in a relatively uncontrolled spray of several bullets per second. Senator Kerry's gun has been illegal since he brought it back, before, during and after the lapsing this week of the AWB law. Kerry's ownership of a more lethal and still illegal fully automatic true assault weapon undermines his criticism of Bush's willingness to allow the "ugly gun cosmetic control" AWB to lapse.

Senator Kerry's illegal weapons stash may be investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF). The BATF is famous for burning to the ground houses in Waco, Texas in which they believed arms like Senator Kerry's were owned. Whether Senator Kerry's several mansions will be surrounded by tanks and searched by the BATF remains unclear at this time.

If this felonious admission by Senator Kerry is properly investigated and prosecuted, Kerry's ability to serve as President from Federal Penitentiary may become an issue in the Presidential campaign.
