This is not a new stance. Russians have been pushing for support on Chechnya for some time. Is he just using the terrorist attack to push the same line? I don't see any moves by him in any other direction yet. Has Putin sent resources to help us in Iraq yet?

["I hope by "West", Putin's referring to "Old Europe" and not us.

["I hope so too...

Putin, was in fact reffering to the US and the UK because the US and UK have offered asylum to some the Chechen rebels that the Russians are after.

We need to get behind Russia on this and quite pussy footing around about the damned arabs. They mean to kill everyone not them and wipe our civilization from the face of the planet. I hope that after Bush wins in November he begins relentless carpet bombing of the Iran and Syrian borders to wipe out the terrorist training/holding camps that they watch everyday with RPV. Non of this precision JDAM crap, just some good ol fashion carpet bombing.

"A patronizing and indulgent attitude to the murderers amounts to complicity in terror,"

Yeah, well, thanks to you and your russian chums, Pooty, you exported your vile socialism to America over the years and IT IS THOSE VERY AMERICAN SOCIALISTS (that you SOBs created!) who have the patronizing and indulgent attitude toward terrorism that you now so bitterly complain about. What goes around comes around. You have no one to blame but yourself.

While I agree that Israel has now teemed up with Russia, at least in the short term, there is grounds for comments about Russia and it's support for Hezballah.

Russia has been a staunch supporter of Syria for a long time. It was willing to let Syria do whatever it wanted in Lebanon, and if I remember correctly warned the U.S. about it's dealings with Syria.

Syria has been the lifeblood of Hezballah, allowing them to operate within their sphere of influence. Syria is a known sympathizer of terrorists, has had training camps for decades.

More recently Russia hasn't pushed it's support for Syria, but then we have been fairly docile when it coms to Syria. We shall see how it goes if that changes.

Israel is overlooking quite a bit to coopertate with Russia on a number of levels. Immigration to Israel from Russia was almost impossible before the Iron Curtain fell. Russia has been pretty supportive of the Araba anti-Israel states over the years.

Let's just hope this is truly the beginning of a new erra in middle-east, Russia, Israeli and U.S. relations.

Sounds to me like Putin is speaking of the U.S. "patronizing and indulgent attitude" towards Saudi Arabia.

You don't suppose Russia is thinking of attacking them, do you?

The reason : Tartus, the ONLY mediterranean base for the russian navy. As soon as Russia has an alternative the whole thing changes ... is changing.

"A patronizing and indulgent attitude to the murderers amounts to complicity in terror," Putin said, widening a rift between Russia and the West over how to deal with Chechen rebel violence

Really!

Why the change of heart?

I don't think they are going to help us in Iraq. Putin is being hypocritical. He criticizes us for going to war with Iraq, and he expects us to support him in Chechnya? He wants to go after the Islamists there, but supports Iran with nuclear technology? Sorry, Crazy Vlad, we don't work that way, particularly when the Chechyns have real grievances against Russia (doesn't justify the killing of hundreds of children, but thousands of civilians have died in Chechnya since the days of Stalin)

Is he being hypcritcal, or is he changing Russsia's (soviet) traditional support of arabs? I don't know the answer, but he said something very similiar to Bush in pre-emptively fighting terrorism anywhere in the world, and we need allies in Iraq, Russia's entry would throw the pansy euros for a loop.

IMHO, whatever grievances chechyna had is greatly overshadowed by their pre-meditated murdering of kids. In any case, it looks to be an area where US and Russia could cooperate in some form or another.

But don't count on the Cretins in the U.S. State Department to see the logic of this themselves.

I wonder why? What so important about chechyna, that we need to alienate a huge potential ally on the world war on terror?

Wouldn't it be smart on our part to join Russia in it's war on chechnya terrorists and have them help us too?

Why are we doing that???? Doesn't that make us the hypocrites?

It was the leftist state dept bottom feeders. The govt tried to stop it, but a Boston court said "too late".

The idiot was not only given asylum but we're paying for his new job and medical care too.

Welcome to our judicial monarchy.

A Lesson in history....

The Soviet Union was the only country resisting the Munich treaty, and were the ready to go to war to defend Czechoslovakia.
