First of all, I don't believe anyone was more furious than I was about that photo. In my haste and fury, I made a comment regarding 'union thugs' that was sweeping, and unfair to unions in general. I was pissed. There is no excuse for what happened. No way to justify pulling the sign away from the 3 year old, and continuing to do so after she was crying about it, as Mr. Parlock mention on the Glenn Beck Program today. The behavior of the union thug was reprehensible. The IUPAT was not well represented by this incident.
That said, here is the problem I am having -- As was pointed out on DU, with references from a Lexis-Nexis search to published articles, somehow, in the last 3 major election cycles, Mr. Parlock has been involved in similar incidents, where he arrived at opposition events with Republican posters and his children, each time finding himself in some sort of incident, and each time managing to be quoted in news stories about that incident. This happened in 1996, 2000, and this week.
I am not saying the event was 'staged' or that the thug in question is related to Mr. Parlock, or any of the tinfoil assertions from DU are true. But I am saying that Mr. Parlock has experience getting involved in this sort of incident, and getting quotes in news sources about said incidents.
All of us know that all you have to do is show up at an opposition event with contrary opinions, signage, etc., and some sort of incident is likely to occur, whether it be shouting, cursing, shoving, spitting, or worse. It is the nature and demeanor of Democrats these days, and the left in general, to behave in a less than civilized fashion. The standards of decorum and civil discourse do not seem to apply to the left any longer. I believe Mr. Parlock knows this, or certainly should know it after the incidents in 1996 and 2000.
Mr. Parlock should be able to take his family to opposition political activities and carry contrary signage without harassment. In an ideal world, this is a great lesson for his children, that democracy and our constitutional Republic afford a divergence of opinion without crossing the boundaries of civility. But in the real world, he is now on his third published incident that make clear that the boundaries of civility no longer exist. He should know by now that something is going to happen. And he certainly seems to know how to get publicity when it does happen. It took 3 tries to get that magic photo.
I don't like being played. And I feel like I have been played here. The event happened. The union thug played his part as expected. But Mr. Parlock played his part, too.
Most people learn to avoid union protests after the FIRST time they are attacked.
Parlock should have his two older sons pose in blue shirts, snarling like the thug in the photo, and release those pictures, so we know it wasn't his kid.
Ever notice the difference in the language allowed on DU? I've seen the same thing other places. The liberals are some of the most foul mouthed people I've ever seen, while the Conservatives try to be more respectful, even if they may tend to use some expletives in normal life. The libs look to me like the ones Mama told you to stay away from...lol.
Could be that he is an optimist that thinks THIS time the Dems will behave themselves.
