Bush not only volunteered for Nam after he was a pilot, but when he joined TANG, they had pilots in Vietnam and he would have expected to be sent there.

Kerry tried to stay out of the military by filing for deferments, while Bush joined the Texas ANG voluntarily while they were actually flying in combat. That he was never sent there was merely because his training took so long that the war was basically over by the time he had many flight hours.

The draft lottery for Edwards' birth year (1953) was performed on 2/2/72. So while he might have had a student deferment for one term (Nixon canceled them in 12/70?), he could not be called up until 1973. The last men to be drafted were those born in 1952, #85 and less.

Thanks for the info.

But those are mere facts. When has the media ever let them get in the way of a hatchet job. Oh, that's right, Bambi is a 'Rat...

yep

the f 104 was a delta wing i think.

I know the freepr would get the story out on the type of airplane, but the fact remains that he did volunteer for nam.

Why do people keep saying Bush flew the F-104 when it was actually the F-102? Rush made the same mistake the other day.

Poor memory, second, his duty was to defend the homeland not tactacial battle over the front lines.

The important thing is that he volunteered - and there might have been a mission for his aircraft cobbled together - or he might have been retrained for another aircraft.

This is my point he volenteered and the type of plane he flew was not appropriate for the nam battle.

No the F 102 was a Delta wing, It only had a few missiles and rockets.
The F 104 was a standard wing fighter. It had the modern Gatling gun.
The F 102 was a stand off fighter that was designed to bring down bombers at long range.
The F 104 was the hot rod of planes.
It was very fast and used to take out fighter and bombers at close range.

This story has been out for years, but now is the time for it to get some attention.

The USAF did fly the F-102 in Vietnam during the middle 1960's to provide protection against the North Vietnamese Air Force flying bombing raids to South Vietnam . . .

Like when Dubya signed up. :-)

what should Bush say when a reporter asks him if he volunteered for Vietnam, as this Col. claims?

That Vietnam was a long time ago, he's proud of his TANG service and that he respects JFnK's service.

We can handle Dan Rather for him.

Was Udell supposed to be the Colonel that Bush approached?

No...that was Col. Staudt, this guy was his trainer.

Just out of curiousity, what should Bush say when a reporter asks him if he volunteered for Vietnam, as this Col. claims?

Refer them to his biography...Bush put the information in his biography about him and his buddy Fred applying for Palace Alert.

It's an easy mistake. The 104 is much more widely known.

I just spoke with CBS to request that they do an interview with Col. Livey. Of course, they had no idea about Palace Alert.

CBS Evening News with Dan Rather:
Phone: 212-975-3691 or 202-457-4385, Fax: 212-975-1893

Just spoke to ABC World News Tonight Newsroom --- Phone: 212-975-3691 or 202-457-4385, Fax: 212-975-1893

They did not know of Col. Livey or Palace Alert. They suggested that I give them details and send to:

abcstoryideas@yahoo.com (on subject line, put WNT for World News tonight)

Maybe some more calls from the pajamajadeen will get some results.
