"Sex Manual" for 12 Year Old School Children has Nova Scotia Parents Riled

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, September 17, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A sex manual, aimed at Nova Scotia school children from grade seven and older, has many parents fuming. The manual -- Sex? A Healthy Sexuality Resource -- contains subject materials totally inappropriate for children, according to a parents group, Parent Advocates for Accountability Group (PAAG).

As a result of parental concern, the proposed deadline for the release of the booklet has been extended from September 9 to the end of the month, giving parents time to review the 124 page document which tells children (among other things) that being 12 years old is a fine time to have sex with a 13 year old friend.

In a rhetorical question on the PAAG web-site, a parent asks: "Is it appropriate for Public Health and School Boards to dictate to parents when and how their children be introduced to some of the topics contained in 'Sex?' Are you prepared to sit down with your child and discuss all of the topics contained in the resource ( i.e. all forms of sexual intercourse, the low age of legal consent, what a vibrator is and the 'morning after' pill)?"

The manual authors suggest 12 years old may be an appropriate age for children to begin consensual sexual relations: ". . . a person who is 12 or 13 can consent to sexual activity but only with a person who is less than 2 years older than he or she is."

The authors also provide information on how to obtain contraceptives, as well as the "necessity" for a child to be carrying them at all times: "In many communities there are places where you can get inexpensive or free condoms and oral dams. For example: Planned Parenthood . . . Be prepared! Carry condoms and oral dams with you. If you don't need them, a friend might."

The manual also suggests abortion and abortifacient morning-after pills as acceptable options in case of unexpected pregnancy: "If your partner gets pregnant she has to make some difficult decisions-Adoption? Raising the baby? Abortion?" They also recommend that children can access this without parental consent: "You do not need your parents' permission to get ECP."

Read the parental concern web page at: http://www.paag.ca

Read the document itself (PDF) at: http://www.gov.ns.ca/ohp/publications/Se

The PAAG is recommending parents contact officials to voice your concerns:
Jim Gunn, Annapolis Valley Regional School Board (AVRSB) Superintendent of Schools: (902) 538-4606
Nancy Pynch-Worthylake, AVRSB Director of Programs & Services (902) 538-4611

I wanted to add to this. No moral training of any kind was given to this child.

If it's already prevalent, and nothing has stopped it...maybe some education is required.

I am so glad that I homeschool and my kids don't know about most of those things yet.

Our only recourse. But you're not completely safe at home either.

Yesterday, our five-year-old next door neighbor told my 6-year-old daughter that he wanted her "to get naked."

honestly i don't think that this is a left or right issue. i think it is just stupid. i cannot think of anyone on either side who would stand up and take credit for this nonsense, although i'm sure that a few people here might be able to make me some suggestions. :)

From the article:

Now, if it's ok for children to engage in sex with children, then why is it wrong, other than the draconian laws based upon archaic societal taboos, for children to have sex with adults?

Can they present an External, Transcendent, Objective Truth that declares such activity as immoral?

If not, then it's perfectly alright for consenting children to engage in sexual conduct, and even sexual commerce, with adults.

Once you exclude God and His law, no behavior is unacceptable. It is only Mankind's opinion, one way or another, and subject to the vicissitudes of the majority.

And if acceptable behavior is based only upon the opinion of the majority, then we mustn't be surprised when acceptable behavior continues its decline to the lowest common denominator.

Why does a child need to know about any of this stuff?

I learned more than I needed to know on the playground. The purpose of this "education" is normalization. It has nothing at all to do with education.

You might want to do some googling on the groups that sponsor these aberrant sex normalization programs and determine their motivations for yourself.

I'm not concerned with any groups, I'm just thinking, that if these kids are educated, then maybe it may help some of them in making a decision that could have far-reaching results. I learned stuff on the playground too...but I later found out that it was incorrect.

Well actually I disagree. There was a post just a couple of days ago talking about all the Hollywood movies coming out promoting sex with children. It is supposed to be the next movement, now that the homosexual agenda has been pushed into our faces.

I think that some of it has to do with emotionally abandoning your children from an early age.
Many people think that it is perfectly ok to let other people raise their children. Day Care and Aftercare become Mom and Dad.
These kids are crying for love and looking for it from each other.
I do understand that some people need to do this, but it should be the exception and not the rule.
I grew up in the seventies and eighties. The girls who were the most sexually active were the ones from two working parent families. I kid you not.

I have to agree with you.My children are 11 and 16 and we as parents have taken time to explain the importants to be
abstinence until they are more mature and can fully accept responsebility for there own actions. We also set strict guidlines for dating. As of yet my 16 year old son is more focused on school than on girls.Parents involvement in their childrens life is very important.

There is only one thing to do. When parents get an inkling that something like this travesty is happening in their schools and if they are upset enough about it, they have to withdraw their children and set up their own schools. Rent classroom space in churches, hire their own teachers, and develop a curriculum.

When I was 13, the naughtiest thing we did at school was all the girls huddled around a copy of the book "The Exorcist", and read all the dirty parts. Squealing and giggling and going "ewwww" every 5 seconds. When a girl from what we considered to be a 'weird' family used the word "vagina" out loud, we shunned her. And nobody liked those "this is your body" films by tampax.

i have a disagreement with people who say hollywood is necessarily a leftist propaganda machine. i think movies are made to irritate people and get a rise out of them because then people talk endlessly about how disgusting or distasteful they are which encourages their friends and colleagues to go watch to see how distasteful or disgusting the film or show or book or song is. so all that happens is that people talk about it and make the people who make this crap rich.
i do not disagree that hollywood is a very liberal culture, i just don't think its agenda is social. i think that its aims are purely economic
