"Sex Manual" for 12 Year Old School Children has Nova Scotia Parents Riled

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, September 17, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A sex manual, aimed at Nova Scotia school children from grade seven and older, has many parents fuming. The manual -- Sex? A Healthy Sexuality Resource -- contains subject materials totally inappropriate for children, according to a parents group, Parent Advocates for Accountability Group (PAAG).

As a result of parental concern, the proposed deadline for the release of the booklet has been extended from September 9 to the end of the month, giving parents time to review the 124 page document which tells children (among other things) that being 12 years old is a fine time to have sex with a 13 year old friend.

In a rhetorical question on the PAAG web-site, a parent asks: "Is it appropriate for Public Health and School Boards to dictate to parents when and how their children be introduced to some of the topics contained in 'Sex?' Are you prepared to sit down with your child and discuss all of the topics contained in the resource ( i.e. all forms of sexual intercourse, the low age of legal consent, what a vibrator is and the 'morning after' pill)?"

The manual authors suggest 12 years old may be an appropriate age for children to begin consensual sexual relations: ". . . a person who is 12 or 13 can consent to sexual activity but only with a person who is less than 2 years older than he or she is."

The authors also provide information on how to obtain contraceptives, as well as the "necessity" for a child to be carrying them at all times: "In many communities there are places where you can get inexpensive or free condoms and oral dams. For example: Planned Parenthood . . . Be prepared! Carry condoms and oral dams with you. If you don't need them, a friend might."

The manual also suggests abortion and abortifacient morning-after pills as acceptable options in case of unexpected pregnancy: "If your partner gets pregnant she has to make some difficult decisions-Adoption? Raising the baby? Abortion?" They also recommend that children can access this without parental consent: "You do not need your parents' permission to get ECP."

Read the parental concern web page at: http://www.paag.ca

Read the document itself (PDF) at: http://www.gov.ns.ca/ohp/publications/Se
x_A_Healthy_Sexuality_Resource.pdf

The PAAG is recommending parents contact officials to voice your concerns:
Jim Gunn, Annapolis Valley Regional School Board (AVRSB) Superintendent of Schools: (902) 538-4606
Nancy Pynch-Worthylake, AVRSB Director of Programs & Services (902) 538-4611

Rodney MacDonald, Minister Responsible for Office of Health Promotion: macdonr@gov.ns.ca

What's chapter 8? How to rape a girl who doesn't want to acquiesse to class instructions too for "frustrated" young boys.

Sanity out the window...

I'd like to bang whoever's idea that was there. LOL

You know what though, it is parents everywhere who tolerate this crap from leftist educational systems. Sadly, I see more harm than good coming from the public educational systems in this country. I know this was Canada, but it can't be that much different.

Home school at least until high school when your kids are old enough to raise the BS flag on their own with good parenting.

>> Why is the world pushing sex on children <<

This is why

>>> a person who is 12 or 13 can consent to sexual activity <<<<

The pervs are working the age limit to ZERO!

I advise people to learn about the Sex Positive Agenda. The Homosexual Agenda is the battering ram used to knock down sex laws and morals issues. This is the end game they are after.

The website http://www.allaboutsex.org/ got hounded out of existence but they still link to a lot of other "educational" websites that encourage young people to engage in all sorts of sexual practices.

It is why the "abstinence only" programs will never be pushed in schools. Not because "some" kids are going to have sex anyways but because they see abstinence as "unhealthy" because you are suppressing sexual desires.

You misunderstand the Sex Positive Agenda. It seeks to encourage an active sex life at all ages. Not necessarily intercourse but whatever sex acts you want to engage in (with a partner of either sex, animal, or relative; there are no moral offenses in the Sex Positive world; although rape is frowned upon, rape fantasies are "okay").

It is one thing to say "if they are going to engage in it", it is quite another to tell kids "you should engage in it...".

They know that they will best accomplish their goals by whittling down resistance a little at a time (as homosexuals have done).

If one thinks about it, an adult male is more able to provide for the expenses of young motherhood than a 12 year old boy is (or even to pay for an abortion). Not to defend the practice, just to say that "within 2 years" is just a bogus argument. They mean to do away with age of consent laws just as laws against unmarried sex (fornication laws), sodomy, and adultery have been done away with. Right now, age of consent laws are a joke because of "Romeo & Juliet/now "Romeo and Romeo" exceptions and a lack of willingness to prosecute for statutory rape.

But you're not completely safe at home either. Yesterday, our five-year-old next door neighbor told my 6-year-old daughter that he wanted her "to get naked."

And the way the girls dressed at my 15 yo son's confirmation class banquet this weekend...it was all I could to not to ask if their next stop was our local "red light" district. Of course, my 15 yo did not know what that was. ;-)

I wish more parents cared about protecting their kids' innocence.

This is for 12 year olds?!?!

Are sex toys even legal for those under 18? I know this is heading towards a school near me, but when it gets there, my daughter won't be anywhere near it. We'll answer any and all questions she has on the subject. Her view right now: Dad, I'm too young, we'll talk about it later...

I'm just thinking, that if these kids are educated, then maybe it may help some of them in making a decision that could have far-reaching results.

Well, being told not to engage in sex before marriage would help children make the right decision regarding sex before marriage. Explaining to children how to engage in immoral sexual acts only normalizes and encourages immoral behavior.

"The purpose of this "education" is normalization. It has nothing at all to do with education."

You are right. Exposing children to this at a younger age reinforces it as normal, and worse, that you are abnormal if you aren't interested in sex at a young age.

Now, if it's ok for children to engage in sex with children, then why is it wrong, other than the draconian laws based upon archaic societal taboos, for children to have sex with adults?

Consent laws aren't really based on archaic taboos. Up until very recently, a 13 or 14 year old getting married and having kids was not unusual. Age of consent laws are a pretty recent innovation.

Age of consent laws are based on contract law: minors cannot legally enter into binding contracts and sexual relations are, legally speaking, a type of contract.

We're all different. I've admired the beauty of the fairer sex since kindergarten or before, and had many friends who were girls at a very young age. I remember "Debbie and 'the other girl'". Sex never entered my mind until (probably) 11 or 12. By teenage years, intimate contact with acne-scarred teenage girls seemed a little bit disgusting to me, though of course I still had the same urges that are common to man. It seems there are two or more forms of lust.

It is sad that beauty can no longer be admired because we've become so culturally conditioned to associate beauty with sex. Think about it. Whenever you see on the TV or movie screen two people of opposite sexes and (oddly) complexions, the automatic, subconscious assumption is that they will have some form of romantic contact.

What about the innocent, childhood admiration of beauty? It is lost on a society consumed with lust, convenience, and instant gratification.

Well, that's a rant...

Of course you know the five year old and the circumstances, but I can tell you as an experienced father and grandfather that many children starting around the age 5 think the word "naked" is hysterically funny. There isn't necessarily a sexual component in it. That said, I'd watch that 5 year old like a hawk around my daughter.

Many people think that it is perfectly ok to let other people raise their children. Day Care and Aftercare become Mom and Dad. These kids are crying for love and looking for it from each other.

I believe you're exactly right.
