Lawyer urges snowbirds to cast their votes in Florida By Mary McLachlin
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Sunday, September 19, 2004
BOCA RATON In the muddled aftermath of Election 2000, Lawrence Caplan lost a legal fight and learned an important political lesson at the hands of none other than Vice President Dick Cheney:
You can live in one state and vote in another.
Caplan, a tax and corporate lawyer, has turned that lesson into Operation: Snowbird, an Internet tool designed to make a difference in the election of 2004 if Democratic voters in New York and New Jersey respond to it.
All they have to do, according to Caplan's Web site, www.operationsnowbird.com, is switch their registrations to Florida, where their votes are more likely to be needed by the Kerry-Edwards ticket than in the deep "blue" states up north. (The last day to register for the Nov. 2 election is Oct. 4.)
New York went for Gore-Lieberman by more than 1.7 million votes, while the official margin for Bush-Cheney in Florida was 537. If only 600 of the 2.2 million votes cast for the Democratic ticket in New York had been cast in Florida, according to the Snowbird site, the state's electoral votes and the presidency would have gone to Al Gore.

If you have two residences you'd be foolish to keep your official on in NY. Florida has not state income tax. People wealthy enough to own houses in both state probably got that way because they were smart about money. Therefore its safe to assume the vast majority are already claiming Florida residence and registered to vote in that state.

So, how and can we stop it?

Well, at least they're not trying to hide it.

If they can do it, so can we. Since we're essentially giving Kerry Mass, and have no real expectation of winning Vermont or even (really) New York, why not have ALL the Republicans in those three states re-register in Florida??

The attorney Generals in all of the snowbird states need to get with the ags in southern states and say that double dipping voing will not be tolerated.
However, that will not happen in NY and most of the NE states as their AGs are rats who condone this double dipping.

I just bought a house in Florida, but we still work in Virginia, so it wouldn't do us any good to claim Florida. A lot of these "snowbirds" are in the same shape we are in. People are working longer and usually it is difficult to take one of these East Coast jobs with you and keep it entact. People have tried that & it usually doesn't work out so hot.
To: southernerwithanattitude
I live in 15 story condo, with 360 units. In the Fall, our building is 80% empty til Spring. The snowbirds go to Boca, and Palm Beach. Every opportunity I have, I copy positive conservative material, from the Jerusalem Post and leave about 100 copies on the mail table..LOL
I am doing my part :)
But I am sure a lot of the folks vote in both places.
To: diamond6
I have not heard of this from Hannity or anyone else. It's one of those things that I'm not sure should be publicized as it may embolden their efforts.
To: Chicos_Bail_Bonds
Are there still homeless vets in the USA? In 2000 a woman was caught in Chicago giving cigs to the homeless to vote for Al Gore, and was proud of it.
If there are homeless vets, do they know that John F. Kerry is one of the main reasons the "American" people turned against them?
I wonder what their reaction would be if they were educated? Who would they vote for then?
To: Grampa Dave
There already was one New Yorker being prosecuted for voting twice isn't there?

I think that they got a couple in the last 2002 election.
Since posting my earlier reply, I have come up with a plan.
The conservatives in Floriduh need to come up with a pool of money and pay a bounty to anyone who can document a snowbirder who votes twice and is convicted of voter fraud.
Several thousand $'s of such reward money potential in each key Snowbird area might scare these old rats away.

The RATS are a bunch of criminals. This isn't the only way they're trying to steal the election. My biggest fear is that President Bush will win legally, but the RATS will have all the 'extra' votes come in from illegal voters and Kerry will win in the end. I don't know if President Bush would fight him on it.
The biggest ace in the hole for us is that Hillary will do something to sink Kerry for us. She wants to run in 08 and as long as Kerry is there, she can't.

The MUST prosecute those who vote in both places.

See my reply #24 on this thread.
Maybe a bounty on double dipping snowbirds might make some of them to back off.
Also, letters to editors that such double voting is an act of treason against those who legally vote once might stir up enough sentiment.

They'd better watch out. Those Republicans running Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties will prosecute two-time voters!
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Democrats John Kerry and John Edwards, on their first trip together to the state that narrowly put President Bush in the White House after a disputed recount in 2000, promised on Thursday that "every vote is going to be counted" this year.
The presidential candidate told thousands of screaming supporters gathered in an airport hanger in Broward County, a region critical to the recount, that he's discovered that Edwards' two young children, ages 6 and 4, were "good at math."
"Those kids really know how to count," Kerry said. "I've given them a special duty in this election. We're sending Jack and Emma Claire down there to help those Republicans in West Palm Beach count those votes." As the crowd erupted, Kerry boomed: "I've got news for you. In 2004, not only does every vote in Florida count but every vote is going to be counted." AP Story June 8, 2004

To the lawyer......
I just went to your site, and what a joke....
In case you don't realize it, there is a poll today that says kerry is ahead by only 5 points in New york....
What are you going to tell the snowbirds now.....to switch back again? I wonder how many will vote twice, like the democratic crooks they may be.
Kerry will lose in Florida, in my opinion, and there is nothing you or your lawyer pathetic john john's can do about that. People are a lot smarter than the morons at the dnc think they are.
And people know slimeball lawyers when they come across them... And that is what kerry and edwards are, slimeball lawyers that don't arise to the level of being called an Attorney at Law
Sounds like more michael mooron stuff to me....
I also took great pleasure in posting your information elsewhere, you know like Freerepublic, that bastion of conservative NEWS that PROVED beyond a reasonable doubt that rather had forged documents.
SO go get your UN observers ready for FloriDUHHHHH!!!, and ready the lawsuits that you may have written already.... And see you in four years because this one is over, and that fat lady is about to sing.....
By the way, everything in this email is only my opinion or meant as satire, so go sue the Vice President or something again.... You really need a life pal....

THERE'S MORE TO THIS STORY:
Exposed: Scandal of double voters, by RUSS BUETTNER, DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
With debate over the 2000 election still raging, thousands of people illegally register in both New York City and Florida, which could swing an election.
Some 46,000 New Yorkers are registered to vote in both the city and Florida, a shocking finding that exposes both states to potential abuses that could alter the outcome of elections, a Daily News investigation shows. Registering in two places is illegal in both states, but the massive snowbird scandal goes undetected because election officials don't check rolls across state lines.
Source: Daily News, August 21, 2004
NOTE: None of the county boards of elections in NYS (let alone other states) that I have contacted have been asked to cooperate in scrubbing voter roles.

Unfortunately what's suggested by Operation Snowbird isn't at all illegal. The election laws as detailed on http://www.fec.gov are idiotically vague and open. It pretty much boils down to "if a state agrees to let you vote there and you only do it in one state, it's okay." There's a lot of holes and vagueness that needs fixin in the election system.
